"Who goes there?"

Su Chen, having just killed Lao Lin, abruptly turned his gaze toward the corner of the alley, his expression dark and unreadable.

"Don't, don't get worked up. I'm not with him."

A figure quickly stepped out, hands waving, seeming quite panicked.

But his attire was identical to Su Chen's—a bamboo hat and black robes, his face hidden from view.

"Benefactor!"

The man explained.

Su Chen raised an eyebrow, stepping forward, a faint, mocking smile on his face as he watched him.

"It's true. I am a descendant of the Zhu Family, named Zhu Yan. This man once colluded with Liu Tong to wipe out my entire family. Such a great grievance—how could I dare deceive you, Benefactor?"

Seeing Su Chen's disbelief, Zhu Yan quickly added.

"Liu Tong? The Zhu Family?"

Su Chen's brow furrowed slightly at that. He looked at Zhu Yan, lost in thought.

Earlier, while investigating Liu Tong's crimes, he had heard of the many cases Liu Tong was responsible for.

Among them, the most heinous was Liu Tong's massacre of the Zhu Family—thirteen lives in total.

"Why should I believe you?"

Though the man's words had some basis, Su Chen wasn't about to take his word alone.

"Benefactor, please follow me. I know where he hid his money."

Zhu Yan pursed his lips, standing up. He knew Su Chen still didn't trust him, but as long as Su Chen didn't attack, there was room to talk.

So he did his best to appear harmless, hoping to earn Su Chen's trust.

Hearing this, Su Chen hesitated and didn't move.

Zhu Yan, having taken a few steps, glanced back at Su Chen. Seeing him rooted to the spot, he immediately guessed what Su Chen was thinking.

So he said, "Benefactor, Lin Hai's silver is all buried under a big tree in his yard. If you don't trust me, you can go check yourself."

"No need. Take me there. Don't try any tricks, or you'll end up like him."

Su Chen shook his head, rejecting the man's suggestion, and gestured for him to lead the way.

At these words, Zhu Yan immediately nodded and began leading Su Chen through the streets.

Su Chen kept a certain distance from him, ready to strike at the first sign of trouble.

Fortunately, Zhu Yan not only made no suspicious moves but also seemed to consider Su Chen's safety, taking paths that mostly avoided people.

After about the time it takes an incense stick to burn, Zhu Yan stopped and pointed at a small courtyard ahead.

"Benefactor, that's Lin Hai's house. There's no one else there. We can go straight in."

He paused, then added, "Or I can go in alone, and you can wait here."

With that, he looked at Su Chen, waiting for his answer.

After their brief interaction, Su Chen was still wary of Zhu Yan, but at least not as completely distrustful as before.

After a moment's thought, Su Chen replied, "Go on in."

Zhu Yan nodded. After observing for a while, he vaulted over the wall and entered Lin Hai's yard.

The moment he did, Su Chen leaped into a tree, watching Zhu Yan's every move.

And Zhu Yan, as if aware that Su Chen was watching him, deliberately faced Su Chen as he moved.

Soon, he dug up a wooden box, shaking off the dirt.

Then he picked up the box, vaulted back over the wall, and came before Su Chen.

"Open it."

Just as Zhu Yan was about to hand the box over, Su Chen spoke abruptly.

Even worried it might be poisoned, Zhu Yan reached out and touched the silver inside.

Seeing this, Su Chen sensed the man's sincerity and spoke.

Zhu Yan let out a sigh of relief. Though his expression was hidden, one could vaguely sense his lightness.

It seemed that being trusted by Su Chen was something worth being happy about.

"So, what exactly are you doing all this for?"

Su Chen stared at the other man, waiting for Zhu Yan's reply.

"I want Benefactor to avenge me!"

Zhu Yan ground his teeth.

"Avenge?" Su Chen was taken aback. Weren't Lin Hai and Liu Tong both dead?

Zhu Yan nodded heavily. "Although Liu Tong and Lin Hai are dead, there's still one culprit at large..."

Then, Zhu Yan recounted the tragic story of the Zhu family.

The Zhu family was a medical lineage in several towns near Zhu Family Town, renowned for their superb medical skills and their daily acts of charity and aid to the poor.

Due to certain reasons, the Zhu family had offended Lin Hai, so Zhu's father asked Liu Tong for help, hoping to resolve the conflict between them.

When Lin Hai learned of this, he also brought in people from the White Jade Gang to mediate.

They thought both sides would let the matter rest, but unexpectedly, the three joined forces to deal with the Zhu family.

Later, Zhu Yan discovered that Liu Tong had long been in cahoots with Lin Hai and the others.

Lin Hai coveted the Zhu family's wealth, Liu Tong had his eye on their medical skills, and Zhao Kuo of the White Jade Gang wanted the Zhu mother and daughter.

Facing the pincer attack of three forces, the Zhu family had no escape.

With that, Zhu Yan knelt on the ground, trembling, and spoke sorrowfully.

"You're that confident I can help you get revenge?" Su Chen countered.

This guy seemed very sure that Su Chen would step in to avenge him.

Hearing this, Zhu Yan looked up, his gaze resolute, but a hint of embarrassment crept onto his face as he said:

"To be honest with Benefactor, I know it was you who killed Liu Tong."

Seeing Su Chen's gaze suddenly turn cold, Zhu Yan quickly added:

"Benefactor, don't misunderstand. I didn't see you kill him; I figured it out."

"Because I thought of nothing but revenge day and night, but I lacked the ability. I accidentally learned about Misty Rain Pavilion and posted a mission to kill Liu Tong. As you can imagine, I nearly got killed by him instead."
