List approved of Franz's discernment, though now was not the time to reward merit.
Franz had not expected to gain anything for Hubble based on this small contribution.
In truth, leaving an impression was enough. When the opportunity came, that slight impression might prove to be a decisive advantage.
Hubble therefore personally escorted Franz's party. Even though there was no need for him to be so attentive, this was the opportunity Franz had secured for him.
Clearly, this was also an investment.
Investing in personal connections was important, and rare.
Hubble knew exactly how rare this opportunity was. So many officers from the regular ranks had not received such a chance. If Baron Franz had not intervened, he would never have come into contact with nobles of this standing in his entire life.
As a guide, Hubble was qualified.
He could describe every part of Emerald Town in detail and was also thoroughly familiar with the progress of the fighting nearby.
The group arrived at a fortress tower that had just been poured. List gazed into the distance, seeming to hear the faint rumble of artillery from afar.
He suddenly asked, "Knight Hubble, what do you think of the New Divine United Kingdom's army?"
"They're quite good." Hubble chose his words carefully. He knew that what he said might have consequences, so after some thought, he said, "I've fought several routed enemy units. Their junior officers are actually not bad, and their soldiers possess basic combat training. They are completely different from those primitive Tool Mutes.
"Also, as far as I know, these are not the enemy's most elite troops.
"As for weaponry, I haven't encountered artillery attacks myself, but the bombardment on the front line has never stopped these past few days. Their artillery shouldn't be too bad either."
