He Kai silently wiped down the mech. Even now, he still had not fully recovered.
He had never done work like wiping down a mech before, not even anything remotely similar.
"Brother Kai!"
A Knight Apprentice working alongside him leaned over and asked in a hushed voice, "Are you from Minister He Yun's family?"
He Kai glanced at him. The young man looked intensely curious.
"No. My parents are both ordinary people." He Kai kept his mouth shut tight, and he was not lying either. His parents really were ordinary people, not high-ranking officials of any kind.
The young man clearly did not believe him. Curling his lip, he said, "Come on, don't mess with me. How could someone chosen by the deputy commander possibly be ordinary? We're on the same side, Brother Kai. Stop stringing me along."
Clearly, the young man had connections of his own and did not believe a word He Kai said.
He Kai stopped what he was doing and asked in return, "Then whose connections are you relying on?"
"My surname is Wu, and our Director-General's surname is Wu too. Which family do you think got me in?" The young man, Wu Hua, had no intention of concealing his background and directly revealed where he came from.
For a moment, He Kai could not tell whether Wu Hua simply had no filter or was doing it on purpose.
The latter seemed more likely. Otherwise, the Director-General's side would not have invested resources in him.
After thinking it over, He Kai decided that since they would be working together in the future and would have plenty of dealings, refusing to reveal even a little would seem insincere.
Cautiously, He Kai said, "My family and Minister He Yun are distant relatives. There's no particularly close connection."
