Zheng Wuyou and the others searched the forest for a water source whose location they didn't know, stumbling around like headless flies. Having a goal was better than having none.

They felt their way forward aimlessly through the pitch-dark forest.

The brown-black forest seemed endless. In just half an hour, they had lost their bearings and couldn't find their way back.

Strangest of all, Zheng Wuyou clearly remembered that from the outside, this had looked like nothing more than a small grove.

It had seemed like they could stroll through the whole thing in just a few steps.

But once they entered, they found that the forest had become vast beyond measure, stretching out of sight.

As they ventured deeper, even the scorching air outside gave way to the cool shade beneath the trees.

It sent a chill down their spines.

Because of the thick fog, Zheng Wuyou couldn't make out how her surroundings were changing. She could only use her five senses to guess where she was.

Perhaps they shouldn't have entered the forest...

But if they hadn't, they would have been left to face that inexplicable fire.

The crackling of the burning grass outside gradually faded into the forest's silence.

Everything around them was utterly still.

There were no birdsong, no faint sounds of insects crawling, not even the rustle of wind through the leaves.

Only the heavy sound of their footsteps pressing into the soil.

It was as though they were the only ones left in the world.

Everyone else had been buried beneath the sudden blaze...

The brown-black leaves completely blocked out the light from beyond the forest, limiting their vision.

If not for the thick fog drifting through the dark woods, Zheng Wuyou would almost have wondered whether she'd entered an entirely different world.
