Chapter Nine
Wang Ritain walked alone through the night when a group of people suddenly appeared ahead.
"Wang Ritain, you have nowhere left to run. Come quietly with us to the Xuanyuan Family, and perhaps we'll spare your life!" The Great Grandmaster at the head of the group wore a black robe. His face was cold and stern, and his voice seemed to grind out between clenched teeth, carrying a chill. Behind him stood thirty-eight carefully selected fighters from the Xuanyuan Family, lined up in perfect formation. Each had a steady presence and eyes full of confidence and resolve.
Wang Ritain raised an eyebrow and stopped. His gaze swept over them like lightning as a mocking smile tugged at his lips. "The Xuanyuan Family? Hmph, what a bold claim! Do you really think you can make me surrender?"
The black-robed Great Grandmaster's expression darkened. He snorted. "Don't get cocky! With so many Grandmasters and a Great Grandmaster here, even a Vajra Realm expert would flee at the sight of us. You have no chance of winning!"
At that, Wang Ritain laughed instead of getting angry. His laughter rang freely through the night. "What arrogant fools! Since when did the Xuanyuan Family become so conceited?"
"Kill him!"
A furious shout rang out, and all thirty-eight attacked at once. In an instant, their surging qi converged and swept toward Wang Ritain.
The formation they wielded was a secret art the Xuanyuan Family had meticulously developed over many years. Its members worked in perfect harmony, and its power was astonishing. Under the force of their combined attack, the surrounding air twisted, and cracks began to spread across the ground.
At the center of the formation, Wang Ritain remained remarkably calm. He weaved through the raging qi with ease, his steps light and unhurried. The sight only enraged his attackers further.
"This brat is too arrogant! Attack together and kill him!" they shouted in unison, unleashing their signature techniques. In an instant, blades and swords flashed, while hidden weapons flew toward Wang Ritain like locusts.
Wang Ritain eyed the incoming attacks, a trace of disdain in his eyes. "Not bad. The Xuanyuan Family has some depth after all. But that's all it amounts to!" He slowly raised a hand. In his palm, the force of Three Points Return to Origin Qi began to gather. The qi glowed with three strange colors that intertwined, radiating a terrifying power.
"Hmph!" Wang Ritain gave a quiet snort and swept his hand forward. The three-colored qi burst forth like a wild horse breaking free of its reins, roaring toward the attackers' assault. The two forces collided in an instant, unleashing a deafening boom. A terrifying shock wave spread outward from the point of impact, uprooting trees and shattering boulders in its path.
When the dust settled, all thirty-eight fighters stood in tatters, their bodies covered in wounds and blood pouring from them. Those in front had suffered the worst injuries. They had lost the ability to fight and collapsed to the ground, their eyes filled with shock and terror.
Wang Ritain showed no pity as he looked at their battered bodies. He raised his hand again, and the terrifying qi reappeared. The group trembled with fear. They wanted to flee, but their bodies seemed pinned in place, unable to move.
"No!" someone cried out in despair. But Wang Ritain remained unmoved. The qi left his hand, and in an instant, it exploded among the crowd. Blood and flesh flew everywhere, leaving a horrific scene behind.
Just then, Xuanyuan Qingfeng arrived. At the sight of the bloody scene, her eyes widened, and fear and shock filled her heart. "Th-this... Was this Wang Ritain's doing?" she murmured, unable to believe it. In her mind, Wang Ritain had grown much stronger, but he shouldn't have been this terrifying. Now it seemed he had grown stronger yet, and his methods had become even more ruthless.
Wang Ritain sensed Xuanyuan Qingfeng's arrival. In a flash, he appeared behind her. Startled, she instinctively turned and swung her sword at him. But her attack was child's play before Wang Ritain, and he brushed it aside with ease. He merely flicked a finger, and a powerful force struck Xuanyuan Qingfeng. Her chest tightened, and she spat out a mouthful of blood. She flew backward like a kite with its string cut, crashed heavily to the ground, and lost the ability to fight.
Xuanyuan Qingfeng struggled to sit up and stared at Wang Ritain, shock filling her eyes. "Wang Ritain, your strength... How did you become so terrifying?"
Wang Ritain walked toward Xuanyuan Qingfeng step by step, looking down at her coldly. "Where is Xuanyuan Jingxuan?"
Xuanyuan Qingfeng's heart jolted. She looked at Wang Ritain and asked, "What do you want with him?"
A cold smile tugged at Wang Ritain's lips. "I'm going to kill him."
"What?" Xuanyuan Qingfeng's eyes widened. She thought she must have misheard.
"I'm going to kill Xuanyuan Jingxuan and make the Xuanyuan Family understand the consequences of offending me!" Wang Ritain's voice was icy, like a bitter north wind in the dead of winter.
Xuanyuan Qingfeng shook her head with difficulty. "Have you gone mad? Xuanyuan Jingxuan is a Finger Profound Realm expert. Even someone in the Vajra Realm can't last more than a few moves against him. How could you possibly be his match?"
Wang Ritain shrugged, looking unconcerned. "How would I know without trying? Besides, I'm guessing he'll be here any moment."
Xuanyuan Qingfeng looked at Wang Ritain, feeling helpless and shocked. She thought he had to be mad to say something so arrogant. Yet she also knew that if he dared to say it, he must have something to back it up.
Wang Ritain looked at Xuanyuan Qingfeng, resolve flashing in his eyes. He knew that to establish himself in this martial world and reclaim the justice owed to him for the humiliations he had suffered, he had to step on the Xuanyuan Family to rise. He had not forgotten any of the injustices they had inflicted on him. Now he had strength and a system. He would make the entire martial world understand that Wang Ritain was no weakling for others to bully!
"Why do you insist on doing this?" Xuanyuan Qingfeng asked.
Wang Ritain gazed into the distance, his eyes unwavering. "To become stronger, and to never be bullied again. The Xuanyuan Family is nothing but a stepping stone on my path to the summit!"
Xuanyuan Qingfeng fell silent. She looked at Wang Ritain, her heart a tangle of emotions. She knew he was no longer the timid retainer he had once been. His ambition and resolve frightened her.
Meanwhile, in the darkness not far away, a figure watched everything in silence. His eyes were full of fury and murderous intent. It was Xuanyuan Jingxuan. As he took in the scene before him, he silently swore, "Wang Ritain, you're as good as dead!"
