Ch. 6Twilight Hermit Society

Uchiha Sōgetsu revealed that Hatake Sakumo had returned as a spiritual body and invited Orochimaru to become an Agent of the Twilight Hermit Society. Orochimaru accepted in exchange for knowledge about souls, and the chapter ended with him inspecting the Society’s seemingly real meeting hall and wondering what secrets it held.

In the Church of Bones, Sōgetsu revealed Orochimaru’s grim future and asked whether he had the courage to defy fate. Orochimaru pledged his loyalty in exchange for the chance to escape that destiny, allowing Sōgetsu to begin his long-prepared plan.

  • Sōgetsu used his Sequence 6 presence to intimidate Orochimaru and White Fang, then allowed them to speak freely.
  • White Fang told Orochimaru that Sōgetsu had predicted his suicide and Kakashi’s future death in battle in Konoha.

After using a dangerous mental suggestion on Tsunade, Sōgetsu left the hospital exhausted and became the subject of gossip. A Root agent then tried to interrogate him in the Forest of Death, where their probing fight escalated when an Aburame Clan ninja revealed his insect swarm.

  • Sōgetsu used up much of his Spirituality planting a Psychological Suggestion in Tsunade's mind and warned himself not to risk it again.
  • Morita misread Sōgetsu's exhausted exit from Tsunade's office and promised to spread his supposed romance with her.
  • A Cat-face Anbu summoned Sōgetsu to the Forest of Death and accused him of using Genjutsu under Uchiha Fugaku's direction.
  • Sōgetsu recognized the agent as a Root operative serving Danzo and countered his attack with a Shadow Clone and shuriken.

Ch. 10When Did You Start Thinking I Hadn't Used Genjutsu?

Uchiha Sōgetsu fought Aburame Ryoma, who was ordered by Danzo to kill him and frame the Uchiha Clan for rebellion. After Ryoma seemed to trap Sōgetsu, the scene revealed that the battle had been an illusion, leaving Ryoma unsure when Sōgetsu cast his genjutsu.

  • Aburame Ryoma unleashed a huge swarm of Kikaichū, identified himself to Sōgetsu, and threatened to execute him under Danzo's orders.
  • Ryoma declared that Sōgetsu would be framed as an Uchiha conspirator, and Sōgetsu used Fire Style to burn through the insect swarm before trying to escape.

  • Aburame Ryoma fled from Uchiha Sōgetsu, but Sōgetsu used Frenzy to inflict severe mental pain on him.
  • Sōgetsu approached Ryoma and used Intimidation, making him hallucinate a dragon and beg for mercy.
  • Sōgetsu calmed Ryoma and told him that people lived to seek security.

Ch. 12Fugaku Uchiha on the March

Aburame Ryoma rejected Danzo’s authority after Danzo ordered him to keep monitoring Uchiha Sōgetsu. Uchiha Fugaku used Danzo’s attempted attack to draw Sōgetsu closer to the clan and invited him to a meeting at Naka Shrine the next day.

Sōgetsu used a genjutsu to give Obito an elaborate, painful romance fantasy while secretly planting a psychological suggestion in his mind. Obito left dazed, and Sōgetsu completed the Adolescent Troubles side quest and received a Fate Doll.

Sōgetsu visited Naka Shrine with Uchiha Fugaku, who revealed the Mangekyō Sharingan and urged him to help restore the Uchiha Clan. Sōgetsu sensed Black Zetsu spying from the wall and attacked it with a Great Fireball.

  • Sōgetsu met Uchiha Fugaku in an underground chamber beneath Naka Shrine.
  • Fugaku explained the Uchiha Clan's troubled standing in Konoha and revealed the Mangekyō Sharingan as a power beyond the Three Tomoe Sharingan.

Ch. 15Jiraiya Is Here

Uchiha Sōgetsu exposed Black Zetsu spying beneath the Uchiha shrine, and Uchiha Fugaku fought him but failed to stop his escape. Black Zetsu fled outside Konoha, where he ran into Jiraiya.

  • Uchiha Sōgetsu alerted Uchiha Fugaku to Black Zetsu hiding inside the shrine wall and suggested he might be Danzo’s spy.
  • Uchiha Fugaku attacked Black Zetsu with powerful Fire Style and taijutsu, while Sōgetsu tracked and intercepted him.

Ch. 16Even Worse, It Was Orochimaru

Sōgetsu told Orochimaru that an immortal being from the Mythical Era was near Konoha, sending him after the injured Black Zetsu. Black Zetsu escaped Jiraiya but ran into Orochimaru, who approached with clear intent to capture him.

  • Sōgetsu appeared to Orochimaru in a dream and promised information about immortality in exchange for a price to be revealed later.
  • Sōgetsu directed Orochimaru five kilometers east of Konoha, identifying a being from the Mythical Era as the answer he sought.
  • Jiraiya fought Black Zetsu and pierced many of his scattered droplets with Needle Jizo, though Black Zetsu escaped after losing two-thirds of his mass.
  • Black Zetsu vowed revenge on Uchiha Sōgetsu, then encountered snakes and realized Orochimaru had found him.

Ch. 17S-Rank Mission

After reporting on the previous night’s battle, Uchiha Sōgetsu received an S-Rank mission from the Third Hokage to investigate Warring States-era seals. He accepted the assignment and headed for the Konoha Gate to meet the person assigned to accompany him.

  • Uchiha Sōgetsu spent the night writing an ANBU report about the battle in the Uchiha Clan compound.
  • The Third Hokage asked Uchiha Sōgetsu how he had discovered the intruder, and he claimed his Sharingan and Chakra perception had helped him.

Danzo failed to persuade Hiruzen to hand Uchiha Sōgetsu over, while Sōgetsu met Tsunade at the Konoha Gate and learned she would accompany him on a mission involving a Scroll of sealed dangerous figures. Black Zetsu returned to Uchiha Madara badly injured after his failed trip to Konoha.

  • Danzo demanded that Hiruzen hand Uchiha Sōgetsu over for questioning, but Hiruzen refused and ordered him not to interfere.
  • Uchiha Sōgetsu met Tsunade at the Konoha Gate and learned Hiruzen had sent her to assist with his mission.

Ch. 19Wandering Monk

Uchiha Sōgetsu and Tsunade traveled to Tanzaku Town before heading to the Forest of the Dead, where Tsunade went gambling and Sōgetsu encountered the wandering monk Jigen. Sōgetsu suspected Jigen had noticed him despite his Psychological Invisibility, while Jigen left uneasy about the boy.

  • Tsunade convinced Uchiha Sōgetsu to stop in Tanzaku Town, claiming they needed clothes for a disguise, and he agreed to stay for no more than a day.
  • They reached Tanzaku Town near sunset, checked into a hot spring hotel, and Tsunade hurried off to a casino.
  • Sōgetsu explored the town and noticed that some of its visitors were ninja, possibly rogue ninja or spies.
  • Sōgetsu collided with a monk who introduced himself as Jigen, then realized the monk had noticed him while he was using Psychological Invisibility.

Ch. 20Second Gathering

Uchiha Sōgetsu gathered Orochimaru and Hatake Sakumo in the Church of Bones and warned them that hidden forces were stirring toward war. He assigned Sakumo to investigate and ordered Orochimaru to collect Byakugan, revealing that it and the Sharingan shared the Sage of Six Paths’ bloodline.

  • Uchiha Sōgetsu returned to the hotel, prepared his room, and used Hermes' Brass Candlestick to summon Orochimaru and Hatake Sakumo.
