Xu Yi had just returned to the office when Zhao Xing and Zhou Rui surrounded him. They talked over each other, taking the better part of half an incense stick to explain the case from beginning to end.
"Has everything been confirmed?"
Xu Yi asked, genuinely impressed by how efficiently the two had handled things.
"All taken care of, all taken care of. It's your usual playbook, after all. Everyone in the Discipline Department knows it by heart now. Besides, what can't you get out of someone after three sessions of questioning? And which of those guys doesn't have dirt under his fingernails? Pull on one thread, and you get a whole string."
Zhao Xing laughed.
Zhou Rui's expression was grave. "My lord, checking their records wasn't hard. The hard part is making the arrests, especially so many at once. The Feng and Zhao families are all but finished, so they won't be a problem. But the Jiang and Gong families may be troublesome. And then there's the Feng family, with its deep roots and sprawling influence. If we move against so many people at once, the backlash could be severe."
"Whether there's a backlash is no concern of yours," Xu Yi said. "I'll handle what comes next. You just make sure the cases are airtight."
Xu Yi's moves were aimed squarely at the anti-Xu alliance led by the Feng family.
These families had joined forces, with Third Elder Feng acting as their go-between, to hire a top expert to take Xu's head.
With Xu Yi's nature, all grudges had to be repaid. How could he possibly let them off? Since returning from the Gloomy Forbidden Area, he had been busy nonstop, but he hadn't neglected this matter. He'd ordered Zhao Xing and Zhou Rui to start looking into it
