Xu Yi had made no shortage of enemies in the Donghua Immortal Sect. Among the most influential were the Lord-level powerhouses of the Violet Mansions.
What Xu Yi hadn't expected was that their resentment ran so deep they'd come after his cave dwelling.
It was hard to believe.
"You're sneaking around like this, so I assume you've returned without alerting anyone?"
Elder Bai asked tentatively.
Xu Yi fixed his gaze on Elder Bai. "You're acting a little strange today, Senior. You keep hesitating whenever you speak. What exactly happened?"
Elder Bai said, "If you haven't alerted anyone, then don't. Leave at once. The Immortal Sect is no place for you to linger anymore. I'll keep an eye out for news of your maid and let you know as soon as anything comes up."
Elder Bai suddenly realized that keeping Xu Yi in the Donghua Immortal Sect to consult him on divination whenever the need arose was no longer realistic.
Xu Yi said, "Senior, you're just digging yourself deeper into this. Even if you don't want to tell me, I have ways of finding out. It'll just take some effort. Why put yourself through this?"
Elder Bai stared at him for a moment. "You troublemaking brat. You think I'm keeping you in the dark just to be mysterious? Twenty years have passed. The Donghua Immortal Sect today is nothing like it was back then."
"Back then, you acted without enough caution and offended all those powerful figures. Every one of them has become a giant in their own domain. Now that you've returned, what good will you do the Immortal Sect besides stirring up trouble again?"
Xu Yi smiled. "If people don't offend me, I won't offend them. No matter how high their status, could they possibly outrank the Sect Leader?
