I've given myself a serious analysis and talked with many fellow authors. Just a few days ago, Chubaofan even strongly criticized me in the author group, publicly asking why I'd shelved Daojun.
From an author's perspective, he felt I hadn't written myself into a corner, and that there was still plenty of room to develop the story. I could clearly keep going, so how could I just abandon it?
My answer at the time was: I know what should happen next, but I don't know how to make it interesting.
Whether you're an author or a reader, there's a stubbornly rigid impression of the "xuanhuan xianxia" genre.
That is: "If you can't decide what to do, change maps. If you run out of ideas, level up. If the pacing gets dull, kill a bunch of people."
I've heard people tell me dozens of times, "You've only written xxx words. How could you possibly have run out of things to write? Change maps, ascend, become invincible, then face enemies from beyond the heavens!"
To be honest, I don't really agree with that.
If you pay close attention to xuanhuan xianxia, you'll notice that the web novels at the top of the rankings
