Ch. 121Capturing the Two-Tails and Eight-Tails

The Masked Man, Orochimaru, and Black Zetsu recovered the Third Raikage’s corpse and discussed capturing the Two-Tails and Eight-Tails to strengthen their chances against Ye Fan. Orochimaru left the risky capture to the Masked Man, who set out to capture the Two-Tails first.

  • The Masked Man proposed capturing the Two-Tails and Eight-Tails in Kumogakure, and Kabuto questioned the risk of doing so.
  • Kabuto opened the Third Raikage’s coffin, and Black Zetsu and Orochimaru assessed the remains as belonging to a powerful shinobi.
  • Orochimaru ordered Kabuto to take the corpse and said he would not join the capture mission because his body had not fully adapted to the Rinnegan.
  • The Masked Man agreed to handle the Two-Tails and Eight-Tails while Orochimaru and Kabuto left with the corpse.
  • Orochimaru said he could not sense the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path, so the Masked Man planned to control the Tailed Beasts with the Sharingan and went to capture the Two-Tails first.

  • Kurama hid his fear of Ye Fan and urged Naruto to talk with Ye Fan rather than fight him over Sakura.
  • Naruto told Kurama he would never fight Ye Fan, whom he regarded as his big brother.
  • Sasuke mocked Naruto, and Naruto challenged him to fight on the hospital roof after Sasuke was discharged.
  • Naruto left the ward carrying the little chubby boy, while Sakura hoped he would ask Ye Fan not to hurt her again.

Ch. 124Gaara's Decision

Gaara offered to bring Sunagakure under Konoha’s jurisdiction to make amends for the invasion, and Tsunade gave him five days to arrange it. Gaara hurried back to Sunagakure after Ye Fan allowed him to leave, while Kisame Hoshigaki approached Konoha.

  • Tsunade demanded an explanation from Gaara, who blamed Orochimaru and offered to compensate Konoha.
  • After struggling to find a suitable payment, Gaara proposed that Sunagakure become part of Konoha and serve the village for the lives lost.
  • Tsunade questioned whether Gaara had authority to make the offer, and Gaara insisted he would handle everything without ulterior motives.
  • Jiraiya supported the proposal, and Tsunade gave Gaara five days to arrange Sunagakure’s submission.

Ch. 127The Incredibly Arrogant Patrol Captain

Three Konoha Anbu messengers arrived at Iwagakure to deliver an invitation from Fifth Hokage Tsunade to the Tsuchikage. After the patrol captain insulted Konoha and refused them entry, they prepared to stand their ground as more than a hundred Iwagakure ninja appeared.

  • The three Konoha messengers reached Iwagakure and presented a scroll bearing Konoha's symbol, asking the village to notify someone of their arrival.
  • Iwagakure's patrol captain mocked Konoha's leadership and asked whether its Fifth Hokage was another old, weak, and crippled figure.
  • The Konoha team leader identified Tsunade as the Fifth Hokage and asked to deliver the scroll to the Tsuchikage.
  • The patrol captain refused to let them see the Tsuchikage and ordered them to leave Iwagakure.
  • The three messengers resolved not to retreat, and the patrol captain summoned more than a hundred ninja and threatened to kill them if they remained.

Ch. 128The Battle Was About to Begin

Iwagakure's patrol captain killed the three Konoha messengers who had come to invite Ōnoki to the Chunin Ninja Exams, then took their bloodstained scroll to the Tsuchikage Building. • The patrol captain told Kurotsuchi that he had killed the messengers.

Ch. 129Behind the Scenes

Kurotsuchi tried to contain the fallout after the patrol captain killed Konoha's messengers, while suspecting that Ōnoki was being controlled. She left with Ōnoki for Konoha, unaware that a pale-skinned youth was manipulating Iwagakure's leaders from behind the scenes.

  • Kurotsuchi slapped and beat the patrol captain for killing Konoha's messengers, then claimed his actions could start a war.
  • Ōnoki dismissed the risk of conflict, and Kurotsuchi grew more certain that her grandfather was being controlled.
  • Ōnoki read Konoha's invitation to observe the Chunin Ninja Exams and agreed to attend, allowing Kurotsuchi to join him.
  • After Kurotsuchi and the others left, Ōnoki, Kitsuchi, and Akatsuchi entered a room and stood vacant before a pale-skinned youth holding a clear, square box of Dust Release.

Meanwhile, the other villages reacted to Konoha’s invitation to the Chunin Ninja Exams, and their leaders and shinobi began converging on Konoha.

  • A surviving Konoha messenger told Ye Fan, Naruto, Hinata, and Rock Lee that Iwagakure shinobi had killed his three companions and fed their bodies to dogs.

  • Tsunade forced her way through a crushing passage, using the Hundred Healings Technique to survive as her Chakra dwindled.
  • Tsunade remembered Hashirama Senju forbidding her from entering the place where Sage Mode could be learned, then resolved to continue so she could grow stronger before Madara Uchiha returned.

  • Ye Fan inferred from Senju Koromo’s fear and the controlled behavior of Ōnoki, Kitsuchi, and Akatsuchi that Otsutsuki Toneri was behind them, and he arranged for Naruto to stay near Hinata’s home.
  • An Anbu Jonin reported that Ōnoki’s group had visited the Hyuga Clan’s territory, but no one had been harmed; Ye Fan then ordered the Anbu to end their surveillance.
