This...
Faced with the Mouth of Truth's question, Violetta answered no and easily pulled her hand out.
The scene before him genuinely left Fu Qian stunned.
In the Snow White fairy tale, the question was who was the fairest of them all. He'd thought it would be an easy point, but he hadn't expected the answer to be no.
Was she too young for it to be triggered?
That made sense.
Or maybe this wasn't the real Snow White?
Fu Qian frowned at Violetta, his mind racing.
Most importantly, she'd actually thought it over before choosing no. That really didn't fit his understanding of little kids.
"I got it!"
Violetta, though, hadn't given it much thought. With a delighted cheer, she hopped over to Fu Qian and held out her hand.
In the little girl's pale palm lay a colorful piece of twisted plastic wrapping.
"This is... candy?" Fu Qian asked.
The shape was just too classic, and it fit the idea of a reward.
"Mm-hm!"
Violetta nodded vigorously. Eagerly peeling off the wrapper, she revealed a translucent, pale-yellow cube.
It really was a sugar cube!
Fu Qian nodded, but in the next moment his brows furrowed even more.
What was that smell?
As Violetta moved, a strange odor wafted faintly through the air.
Could it be durian candy?
Fu Qian felt a surge of alarm, but Violetta had already leaned toward it eagerly.
She held the candy beneath her nose and sniffed deeply. The little girl looked utterly entranced.
Was that really necessary? She'd just eaten more than one dessert.
As Fu Qian stared at her in disbelief, Violetta looked ready to drool.
But at the last moment, just before putting it in her mouth, she stopped.
Turning to Fu Qian, Violetta seemed to be struggling fiercely with herself.
