It seemed a little strange.
At the reminder from outside, the carriage indeed slowed smoothly to a stop.
Fu Qian, however, was deep in thought. He hadn't even changed the pose he was holding while looking in the mirror.
The reflection was distorted and warped, but it was still clear enough that it showed a middle-aged man with brown hair, no beard, lean cheeks, and a stern expression.
With the medical kit full of bottles and instruments, it was obvious that he was playing a role akin to a doctor.
More obvious still, the face was completely unfamiliar to him.
He'd thought he might get a name from the coachman.
But when the other man had spoken to him, he'd seemed to deliberately avoid that, only helping confirm Fu Qian's guess about his profession.
And with a house call in the middle of the night, the atmosphere had turned downright eerie.
"Doctor, sorry for the trouble on the road."
As Fu Qian was musing, the carriage door opened from outside. A middle-aged man with graying temples and immaculate clothes leaned in and gave him a slight nod.
So he hadn't been overthinking it.
The man had clearly been waiting here, and his manner and attire were rather like those of a butler. Yet he, too, had only called Fu Qian "Doctor," confirming his earlier guess.
And the next moment, rather than taking offense, Fu Qian was deeply satisfied.
When in Rome, after all. This strange atmosphere clearly wasn't one-sided. Wouldn't he be able to address everyone as Sir or Madam from now on?
That would save him a good deal of trouble.
He'd even learned another name: Jian Wenlos.
"Take me to her."
Fu Qian gave a slight nod, made his voice a little hoarse to make it harder to
