Oh? I think I actually know her.
The name Batters gave made Fu Qian remember the taste of the coffee at the party almost instantly.
It probably wasn't a case of mistaken identity. So that enthusiastic head of beverages was actually the girlfriend of Wen the badass?
And then there were the looks everyone had given him when he showed up, as if he were some rare animal.
"Were they the ones who threw the party?"
Fu Qian asked outright.
"Yes... You know her? Also, weren't you not interested in the party?"
Batters turned to him, looking quite surprised. He even recalled their conversation in the car earlier.
"You asked where it was being held. Were you actually interested in going?"
It seemed that while Mr. Wolf's behavior today had been reassuring, he'd also been a little too cold. Seeing this more human side of him suddenly seemed to put Batters somewhat at ease.
"No. If I had the time, I'd rather spend a while longer chatting with that woman from before."
Unfortunately, Fu Qian immediately crushed his little moment of relief and shook his head.
"...So why do you think Wen ran off just like that? Did he sense some particular danger?"
Fu Qian's example left Batters speechless for a moment.
"But if he really thought we were in danger, why didn't he warn us? That's what I find so hard to understand."
When he spoke again, he took the initiative to steer the conversation back to the current mystery.
"That's a good question."
Nodding, Fu Qian finally offered some rare praise. Then he looked up.
"Maybe he's a bit of a coward, but he didn't notice any further danger, so he still had confidence in us."
Further danger?
Perplexed, Batters followed Fu Qian's gaze upward.
