This was the legendary case of suffering for suffering's sake.
His senses still seemed to be working, but he had almost completely lost the ability to process information.
After each mental laceration, Fu Qian had only enough energy left to judge that the tomb keeper was still standing in his field of vision.
That was all, though. Even continuing the conversation was beyond him.
Fortunately, after seeing the resolve with which he pursued the Dao, the tomb keeper seemed to have nothing more to say for the moment beyond a sigh of admiration.
At the same time, every second seemed to stretch unbearably long.

This really was... wonderful.
Although he still didn't know what had caused this change, and his high-speed thoughts could savor every moment of the pain in excruciating detail, being able to save time on a project where every second counted wasn't a bad thing.
It also lowered the odds of the tomb keeper interfering with him during the process.
Of course, those were ultimately minor details. The most important thing was what would happen once the pain reached its extreme and every trace of bliss was gone. Would there be some opportunity to celebrate?
