"Why did he die?" Xue Shilou wondered. The Carefree Wanderer was famous for his footwork throughout the Extreme North. His Carefree Steps were so unpredictable they seemed to defy ghosts and gods, and were peerless beneath the heavens. Defeating him was nearly impossible; killing him was even harder.
He hadn't even comprehended the supreme sword art from the rake technique yet. How had the Carefree Wanderer died right outside his home?
With the Carefree Wanderer dead, the top seat among Spirit Transformation cultivators in the Extreme North had fallen to him.
He had passed the second trial for no apparent reason.
"No idea." Lu Yang had been cultivating in his room just now and hadn't noticed anything happening outside.
Lu Yang turned to ask the Undying Fairy in his mental space.
"Fairy, do you know how the Carefree Wanderer died?"
"He killed himself," the Undying Fairy said confidently.
Lu Yang looked at the Carefree Wanderer, whose body didn't have a single uninjured spot, and fell into thought.
"Fellow Daoist Xue, give me a hand. Let's lay the Carefree Wanderer to rest."
"Ah, oh."
Lu Yang and Xue Shilou carried the Carefree Wanderer's corpse toward the tree by the entrance to Lu Yang's room.
As it happened, the Foundation Establishment assassin Luo Shi from the Ghostslay Alliance had been buried beneath that tree earlier. When Luo Shi learned that his corpse would have the company of the once-strongest Spirit Transformation cultivator, the Carefree Wanderer, surely he would be happy in death.
"Old Lu, did something happen outside...?"
Meng Jingzhou came out of his room and saw Lu Yang and Xue Shilou carrying an unfamiliar corpse, one at the head and one at the feet.
"I didn't see a thing. I'm going back."
"Going back my ass. Get over here and help."
