"What the hell? That interim President isn't much to look at, so how does he have such pretty ideas in his head? Us, going to be his bodyguards? He's got some damn nerve!" Avengers Base erupted into discussion. The Avengers who heard the news were all stunned, then furious, and Johnny Storm mocked him outright.

What kind of joke was this? The Avengers were relatively free to begin with. They had only taken on the name of an official organization for the convenience of their work; they were not formally serving in any official agency at all. On what grounds were they supposed to go be that President's bodyguards?

And even if they were not Avengers, did not possess extraordinary powers, they still would not have been willing to serve as bodyguards for this so-called President.

Following the President twenty-four hours a day—never mind the lack of freedom and the sheer idleness of it—most of the Avengers had not even revealed their identities to the public. When the time came, were they supposed to appear before the President with their real faces? Or in full costume?

If they wore their current outfits twenty-four hours a day, would there really be no risk of exposure? If it was someone like Doctor Octopus, who was basically already on the fringes of the Avengers and spent every day hiding in a laboratory without going out, with no real social circle or friends and family, that was one thing.
