Successive Attacks and Fury

Very quickly, under Tony Stark's heartfelt comfort, the atmosphere in the office turned intimate. But before Tony Stark could comfort Pepper any further, Jarvis's voice rang out. "Sir, Human Torch will arrive in approximately two minutes..."

"Human Torch? What's he coming here for?" A trace of displeasure flashed through Tony Stark's eyes at being interrupted. He looked at Pepper in his arms and muttered hesitantly, "If we're quick..."

"What are you thinking? Wait until you come home tonight!" Pepper gave Tony Stark an annoyed roll of her eyes, then got up from his lap and said softly, "I'm going to handle some company matters. Remember to come home tonight..."

"Got it!" Tony Stark quickly nodded, then looked toward the distant sky. When he saw a streak of fire appear in his line of sight, he could not help grumbling, "Talk about bad timing!"

Of course Tony Stark knew why Johnny Storm had come. When Pepper got into trouble earlier, Tony Stark had not had time to say anything to the Avengers before rushing over in a hurry. Now Johnny Storm must have gotten the news and hurried over to check things out.

It was not that the other Avengers did not care about his and Pepper's safety. Rather, after hearing news about Fire-Man, Johnny Storm simply could not sit still.

After all, although they had known before that there was more than one Fire-Man, those Fire-Men had not done anything evil at the time. But now things were different. A Fire-Man had actually attacked Pepper. That might mean they had their sights set on the Avengers, so Johnny Storm also wanted to know whether Tony Stark had gained anything after defeating that Fire-Man.
