"What happened?" The henchman who had slammed into the invisible wall looked utterly bewildered. He instinctively reached out and felt the empty space in front of him. When he actually touched an invisible barrier there, his expression changed, and he jumped back several steps, shouting in terror, "A ghost wall! It's a ghost wall!"

There were plenty of horror movies in a country like America too, and abilities that trapped people inside a room and prevented them from getting out were fairly common in those films. So after Killian's henchman realized he was trapped and unable to leave, his instincts immediately went to a horror-movie trick like a ghost wall.
