"???" As Ego's words fell, most of the Guardians of the Galaxy looked at one another, at a loss for what to say. Star-Lord's face darkened, and he stared at Ego's projection as he said in a low voice, "Old man, even if you did just save us, that doesn't mean you get to take advantage of me!"
"Child, I'm not taking advantage of you. I truly am your father. Otherwise, why would I risk offending the Sovereign to save you?" Ego in the projection sighed helplessly and looked at Star-Lord as he spoke seriously.
"With the strength you showed earlier, dealing with the Sovereign hardly looked like much of a risk." But Star-Lord was not swayed by Ego having saved their lives. He fixed his eyes on Ego and continued speaking warily.
"As expected of my son. You really are cautious. But I truly am your father. Your mother's name was Meredith Quill, wasn't it?" Seeing Star-Lord so guarded, Ego's expression grew even more helpless. He continued explaining to Star-Lord, while also stating the name of Star-Lord's mother.
"How do you know that?" Star-Lord's eyes widened instantly. He stared at Ego in disbelief, unable to accept it for a moment. Only after a long while did he come back to himself, still looking hesitant as he asked Ego, "Are you really my..."
"I did it! The energy's connected! We don't need to worry about power anymore!" Just as Star-Lord was still hesitating and unable to say the word "father," Rocket Raccoon shouted excitedly from the side.
Counting from when the Sovereign started chasing them until now, not much time had actually passed. At least, for researching an entirely new energy technology system, such a short amount of time really was far too little.
