This made Black Spider breathe a huge sigh of relief. As long as they could hold the walls and keep the Smith garrison outside, they would be nearly invincible.
However, after accomplishing that, Black Spider did not idle around. He hurried over, chopped off the Smith Officer's nearly pulverized head, and hung it from the flagpole.
Then he called on the soldiers atop the walls to shout the slogan, "The enemy general is dead!" together, striking at the morale of the troops outside the walls and shattering their will to fight!
The tactic proved useful. The Smith garrison outside the walls had already been driven to the brink by their exhausted ammunition and food supplies. This siege was their final chance, and they had placed all their hopes in the Smith Officer.
Under those circumstances, the Smith Officer's death was undoubtedly a heavy blow to them. It was as if hope had shattered right before their eyes. The overwhelming despair that followed instantly enveloped their hearts, and quite a few soldiers collapsed on the spot.
By contrast, on the Rakshasa Republican Party's side, the walls were secure, and the motley army had finally settled down.
