Spotting danger, exploiting danger, and leaving it alone—that was what made it dangerous. If it could be exploited, it was a resource.
By this point, the Fusion Plan had completed ten batches of experiments. More than 300 million citizens of the Imperium had undergone fusion with the Tyranids. Without exception, they had successfully devoured the Tyranids they were fused with, and later tests found no signs of abnormal changes in either their bodies or souls.
It was enough to overturn an entire civilization. But within the Imperium, all kinds of soul-detection devices could easily reveal their true nature. Even ordinary citizens, if they paid close enough attention, could tell through the revelations of Psionics whether someone was an acquaintance.
Even so, the shapeshifters still gained a great many advantages. For example, they had already learned to use Gene Editing to create varying numbers of Tyranids to work for them.
They couldn't directly incubate Astartes the way a Primarch could, but hatching Tyranids with special abilities was still easy. One employee at a Hydroponic Farm, for instance, had completed the Fusion Experiment, then gone home and used Gene Editing Technology to create a Biological Factory. By devouring all kinds of biological waste, it produced food.
Livestock such as pigs, cattle, and sheep no longer needed to be raised for a long time before slaughter. The corresponding genes could simply be input and multiplied in a Biological Factory, allowing pork, beef, and mutton to grow rapidly.
These Biological Factories could even produce customized cuts. Specific portions of meat from pigs, cattle, sheep, and other livestock could be cultivated on demand, with far greater efficiency than natural farming.
If that were all, it wouldn't be anything remarkable. The Imperium's Bio Engineers had long since created similar factories, capable of rapidly cultivating large numbers
