There was an advantage to dealing with the Annihilation Fleet: those fools, whose minds were controlled by the will of destruction in the depths of space, had completely lost the vigilance expected of intelligent life. Their indiscriminate slaughter of life throughout every star region forced the NPCs of the Dark Galaxy to fight back desperately.
If the Main Fleet still existed, resistance would only bring about their destruction sooner. But once the main force of those brainless fools had been wiped out, the NPCs had no qualms about kicking them while they were down and slaughtering every last one of those monsters tainted by the aura of destruction.
That was when the Interstellar Legion would enter the battle. On one hand, it would clear out the remnants of the Annihilation Fleet and keep them from threatening civilized worlds. On the other, it would deal with the NPC Faction, taking advantage of the Annihilation Fleet's sweep through the local powers to keep striking at them and lay the groundwork for the expansion of the Imperial Military's sentinel systems. It would also plant agents among the surviving NPC Factions, expanding the Empire's sources of intelligence.
The Interstellar Legion was of little use on the front lines, but it performed remarkably well in such a complicated environment. The military had conducted a special study: in almost every month, the Interstellar Legions under its direct command could capture 13 to 15 NPC Warships. About two or three of them were Battleships, and occasionally even flagships or Titans ended up in their hands.
Even though the standard warships used by NPC Factions were inexpensive, the military could recoup its investment in just three or four months. After that, not only would it no longer need to pay for the Legion, it could also collect a
