"Run!"
The little ghosts saw their boss get killed by Lin Chen in the blink of an eye. How could they possibly want to fight? They immediately scattered, wishing they had a few more legs to run with.
"Run? You think you can get away that easily?"
Lin Chen summoned Blood Qi True Flame to wrap around his entire body. He turned into a streak of fire and charged straight at the fleeing little ghosts. Every one he touched instantly turned to ash. In the blink of an eye, he had slaughtered them all.
Watching Lin Chen sweep through them like a hurricane, Chen Ping swallowed. "Are you really Old Lin?"
"Little Ping, you've already forgotten your father?" Lin Chen chuckled at the three of them.
"Holy crap..."
At his words, Chen Ping and the others immediately relaxed. With that tone, who else could it be but Lin Chen?
"Old Lin, how did you get so strong?" Zhang Song asked, looking at Lin Chen with curiosity.
"I've always been this strong. You just never noticed." Lin Chen shrugged, then looked at the chubby guy, who had been silent the whole time. "Hey, chubby, did you get scared witless?"
"So... so... thrilling!" The chubby guy panted heavily, his face flushed with excitement. Then he looked regretful. "Too bad I didn't get to touch them!"
Lin Chen and the others had been worried about him, but seeing that, the same thought crossed all three of their minds: Holy crap, the chubby guy's into that kind of thing. They'd better keep their distance from him in the future.
Whoosh~
Just then, the scenery around them shifted. Without the support of ghostly energy, the bar turned into a dilapidated old building. Lin Chen and the others hurried outside.
"Zhang Song, you idiot! You even got the directions wrong!" Chen Ping said helplessly, glancing at Zhang Song beside him.
On the way to find the bar, Lin Chen tallied his gains. He'd collected seven thousand points of source energy in total. Apart from the thousand points provided by the Second-order Ghost, the rest had come from First-order Ghosts, each worth five hundred.
"One more wave like that would be perfect!" Lin Chen looked at his panel and smiled.
When they finally found the bar they were looking for, it had clearly lost the fiery, wild atmosphere it had before. Lin Chen hung around for a while, then left.
On the way back to his dorm, Lin Chen sent Xu Fei a message, telling him about the bar.
Hmm?
Under a streetlight not far away, a tall, pretty woman seemed to be waiting for someone. Lin Chen immediately hurried over.
"Miss, you don't look well. Are you feeling unwell?" Lin Chen asked, looking at her.
The woman raised an eyebrow, her voice cool. "Aren't you using a pretty outdated pickup line, classmate?"
"I'm not hitting on you. I'm trying to help!" Seeing her displeased expression, Lin Chen quickly explained, "You've got a dark aura around your face. You must be in trouble. Luckily, I can help you deal with it."
"No need." The woman refused outright and looked at the figure approaching in the distance. "My friend's here."
Seeing that she was about to leave, Lin Chen hurriedly called after her. "You've encountered a ghost!"
"Hmph."
The woman gave a quiet snort and walked away without looking back.
"You can't talk a ghost into sparing someone who's bent on dying."
Watching her leave, Lin Chen shook his head to himself. He could sense ghostly energy on her, so she'd clearly been in contact with a ghost. Too bad there wasn't one nearby, or he could have killed it right then and there.
Since they were classmates, Lin Chen had wanted to save her, but unfortunately, she didn't believe him.
"Xiaoxue, do you know that handsome guy?" A somewhat plump woman watched Lin Chen walk away and asked curiously.
The woman shook her head repeatedly. "No. He came out of nowhere to hit on me with some old, cheesy line. What a waste of a handsome face."
A flash of jealousy passed through the plump woman's eyes. A handsome guy like that had never hit on her, yet this woman still had to be so picky.
But all of that...
After tonight, everything would be different!
"We should hurry, or Xiaofeng and the others will be waiting forever," the woman said, quickly pulling the plump girl toward the campus gates.
Meow~
A crisp meow suddenly came from the bushes. A black shadow darted out and vanished from Lin Chen's sight.
"Whose cat got out?"
Lin Chen looked in the direction the cat had gone, a thought crossing his mind. The school strictly prohibited pets, but there were always some overly kindhearted girls who kept pets or fed stray cats and dogs.
As Lin Chen headed back to his dorm, he failed to notice a pair of jade-green eyes watching him from the shadowed trunk of a tree, until his figure disappeared into the night.
Back in his dorm, Lin Chen washed up, then had barely lain down when he got a message from Zhang Song saying the chubby guy wouldn't be returning that night.
"Remember to use protection!"
Lin Chen knew the chubby guy was about to lose his virginity. As his friend, the only thing he could do was remind him not to get anyone pregnant.
Night gave way to dawn. By the time Lin Chen woke again, it was already the next morning. Several messages had arrived on his phone—his mission rewards, including the reward for last night's ghosts at the bar.
After logging into the Cultivator Forum again, Lin Chen found that his level had increased, allowing him to browse and accept Third Order missions. He searched for missions as he headed toward the cafeteria.
He was eating breakfast when his phone suddenly rang. It was an unfamiliar number, and Lin Chen answered.
"Benefactor Lin, this humble monk is Yi Jie..." A familiar voice came through the phone. It was Master Yi Jie, whom he'd met the day before.
Before Master Yi Jie could finish, Lin Chen hurriedly cut in. "Master Yi Jie, you're calling so early—is there news about the cultivation technique?"
At the moment, apart from gathering source energy, obtaining a cultivation technique was Lin Chen's second biggest goal.
"Not yet. This humble monk—"
"I'm busy. Goodbye!"

After hanging up, Lin Chen grabbed a bun and dashed out of the cafeteria, eating as he ran toward the school gate.
Master Yi Jie was pretty reliable. Less than two minutes after Lin Chen reached the gate, a familiar Off-Road Vehicle pulled up beside him. Master Yi Jie was driving.
Lin Chen immediately opened the door and jumped into the vehicle. "Hurry!"
"Benefactor Lin is truly eager to help others," Master Yi Jie said with a sigh, seeing how impatient Lin Chen was.
I'm worried someone will steal my kill!
Yesterday, two groups of people had tried to steal his kills. If he hadn't acted quickly, his rewards would have been much smaller. Now he was a little paranoid, afraid someone else would get there first if he was even a step too late.
