The reason Jon wanted Anthony and the others to familiarize themselves with the history of the wizarding world was because they were a crucial part of his plans going forward.

Although there was still no way to turn them into wizards, once the conditions were right, since they had been by his side all this time, they had to be among the first to become wizards.

More importantly, wizards would constantly be entering the laboratory. It would be troublesome if they knew nothing about these things.
