I lost the third round of recommendation PKs. There were too many big-name authors ahead of me, and I couldn't get another recommendation slot, so I could only go premium.
To be honest, my feelings were incredibly complicated when I got to this point.
Judging by favorites, this book ranked second from last among the six books I've put behind a paywall.
The one in last place was a Naruto fanfic I wrote seven or eight years ago—my first contracted and premium-release novel, which has now been blocked.
That was my rookie work when I first entered the industry. Its first-day subscriptions were in the single digits, and after finishing at seven hundred thousand words, its average subscriptions were only a little over a hundred.
The second, third, fourth, and even fifth books had their ups and downs, but before going premium, they all had over thirteen or fourteen thousand favorites. The best one, Cultivation Begins Three Years After Transmigration, had sixty or seventy thousand favorites when it went premium.
But with this sixth book, even as it neared premium release, it had only just passed five thousand favorites.
The gap was simply too huge.
To be honest, I was still quite passionate while writing this book.
Every day, I planned out the plot outline in advance and poured nearly all my energy and enthusiasm into writing. I revised it again and again; the discarded drafts alone exceeded twenty thousand words.
But there was nothing I could do. The results just wouldn't improve.
It even made me doubt the story I was writing.
Was Shen Changchuan's story actually good? Could I keep writing it?
Sometimes, I even thought about giving up.
But was it truly beyond saving?
It didn't seem completely dead yet.
