Chi Xue and the others knew full well that the Lord of the Universe wouldn't stop after just one probe. Sure enough, a second wave soon arrived. To their shock, not only were there far more Nine Nether Nether Soldiers this time, but they seemed to be appearing without end. More importantly, this new batch was very different from the last: some carried huge bronze shields, while others carried longbows and quivers. Clearly, the Lord of the Universe had deployed them specifically to counter Chi Xue and the others.
It made sense. The Nine Nether Nether Soldiers with bronze shields could withstand Chi Xue and the others' arrow techniques, allowing those behind them with longbows to unleash powerful attacks. With their numbers, the archers would have a good chance of posing a serious threat. At the very least, they could force Chi Xue and the others to reveal even stronger methods.
That was how the Lord of the Universe saw it, and many of Chi Xue and the others thought the same. But Chi Xue and Tu Gui weren't concerned. They knew those bronze shields couldn't withstand their arrow techniques. Three or four Impact Arrows might not pierce one, but four or five consecutive strikes—and certainly six—would do the trick. And if that still wasn't enough, they could focus their fire. If one energy arrow couldn't break a shield, they could fire several. With more than two thousand people on their side, a single volley would pierce quite a few shields.
Once a shield was pierced, they could kill the Nine Nether Nether Soldiers behind it. They could also use the tremendous impact of the Spiral Arrow Technique to drive back any approaching soldiers, preventing them from reaching the formation and breaking inside.
