Chapter 27: Infiltrating the Factory
Outside the main gate of the German Army's fortress-like factory.
Under the rain, a convoy of six German supply trucks slowly drove through the muddy ground, their destination clearly the garrisoned fortress.
Two figures quickly moved through the jungle on the side, using the darkness to stealthily approach the rear cargo hold of the last supply truck.
Kyle was the first to flip into the rear cargo hold, covered only by canvas. Seeing two fully armed German soldiers inside, he whispered, "One for each of us."
He quickly charged one of the soldiers, covering the soldier's mouth with his right hand while simultaneously driving the half-blade of his Nepalese Kukri into the soldier's heart.
Seeing his comrade killed before his eyes, the other soldier finally reacted to the enemy attack and was about to draw his weapon when a young man behind Kyle lunged at him.
The steel shield, adorned with Captain America's insignia, struck the soldier's forehead first. Steve followed up with a sharp knife-hand strike, crushing the cervical spine of the stunned soldier.
"Not bad, just a little slow," Kyle, who had been watching from the side, nodded and gave a measured, objective assessment.
"You're too fast," Steve said with a wry smile, dragging the soldier's corpse.
"If you want to fight side-by-side, you need to learn to keep up with my pace," Kyle shrugged matter-of-factly, tossing the corpse of the soldier he had dealt with out of the truck. Steve followed suit.
Killing and disposing of bodies – a consistently simple and brutal infiltration method.
Since the German factory was located deep behind the combat zone, and countless supply trucks entered and exited daily, the soldiers at the main gate didn't check every rear cargo hold.
The transport convoy never expected their own trucks to carry two enemy super-soldiers into the fortress.
After the transport trucks had stopped and the engines were off, Kyle and Steve emerged from the rear cargo hold and hid among the piled-up cover. The infiltration was incredibly easy this time, much simpler than the large base they had raided last time.
The light rain had completely stopped. Under the dim night lights, a large factory building stood within the fortress, with soldiers constantly transporting supply crates inside.
Many soldiers patrolled with blue-glowing special effect guns. The fortress also housed tanks and other high-end weaponry, all heavily guarding the factory.
"It doesn't look like a soldier's camp; it really looks like a manufacturing plant," Kyle murmured, peeking around. He could see the twenty-meter-tall factory building, and the sounds of machinery could be faintly heard.
"They've been building this factory and working day and night. What exactly are they trying to make?" Steve asked, puzzled.
Make what?
A flash of inspiration struck Kyle. He glanced at Steve beside him and said seriously, with a plan in mind, "Steve, let's split up."
Steve looked at Kyle in surprise. "Split up? Isn't it safer to stick together in here?"
"What's the point of safety? The priority is to quickly find where the hostages are held. If the enemy discovers us, with our strength, we can escape safely, but the hostages might not be so lucky," Kyle explained. "The factory is so big, if we split up to search, the first thing we do upon finding them is to rescue the hostages."
"That makes sense. Be careful yourself then," Steve agreed, nodding, and eagerly avoided the soldier guards, heading towards the factory building.
Watching Steve's retreating back, a triumphant smile spread across Kyle's face.
Sorry, brother, but I'll have you draw the factory's enemy attention first. You can consider it a challenging training exercise – after all, there's no better way to learn than through hands-on combat.
"A manufacturing plant... at this time, what energy resource could be better for the German Army than Gem Energy?" Kyle licked his lips, his silhouette gradually fading into the darkness, and he quickly and completely disappeared from his spot.
Stealth activated, Nightcrawler mode.
Up close, Kyle was like a misty shadow, non-existent in the world, silently following behind Steve.
Inside the fortress's factory building, the internal machinery was even more high-tech than the exterior, with German workers constantly operating equipment.
Steve moved stealthily along the way. He was exceptionally cautious. Without Kyle's guidance, he was much more unrestrained.
Squelch!
After using a door to smash a patrolling soldier's head, Steve completely entered the factory interior. A mass of mist hovered ten meters behind him.
"Decent skills, but that shield is a bit of an eyesore."
Kyle couldn't help but complain. Steve's infiltration was one thing, but he insisted on carrying a steel shield on his back, its surface painted with American stripes and stars.
It was as if he was afraid people wouldn't know he was an American soldier.
"As the vanguard Captain America, it seems he's destined to be a shield-bearer," Kyle shook his head and continued to follow.
Steve went up to the third floor of the factory. Below the suspended railway tracks were metal pipelines. On the third-floor corridor, rows of glowing blue supply shelves were piled up.
"Energy clips?"
He picked up a blue-glowing clip from a box in surprise. He didn't have much time to think and continued to search for the hostage location.
As soon as Steve left, Kyle, who was in stealth, stopped beside the supply shelves. Looking at the rows of shelves filled with blue-glowing energy clips, he couldn't help but get excited.
Gem Energy, how much of it is here! How many draws can I make!
Kyle rejoiced inwardly, but as soon as his attention focused on the supplies, the excitement on his face instantly subsided.
[New Energy Ammunition Clip]: A new energy clip made from extracted Gem Energy, capable of firing laser beams with astonishing destructive power. Rare Green Item Card.
Do you wish to draw?
Draw my foot!
Kyle was speechless. He had thought all these energy clips were of blue quality, but they were only of rare green quality.
Rare green item cards, used as materials for Sacrifice Draw, also count as Green Cards!
This was also why Kyle's enthusiasm waned. Drawing these energy clips would only be useful in combat. For Sacrifice Draw materials, it would be better to exchange them for ordinary green supplies on the battlefield.
"Forget it, I'll go rescue people with Steve," Kyle said with some helplessness. Just as he stood up to move, he quickly stopped as if remembering something.
Wait.
What are the main materials for such a large new energy manufacturing plant?
"That's right. I was only focused on this trash material, but this place has one of the most precious items on the entire Earth, and even in the universe." Kyle's heart trembled, and he excitedly clenched his fists.
The Tesseract! This place has the Tesseract, the carrier of the Space Stone!
Thump!
Kyle quickly entered Stealth and, without regard for exposure, headed for the factory's central control center at top speed.
