The black police car roared in on a tail of flames and stopped inside the Kimbert City Police Headquarters.
I must be going crazy!
As trainee Inspector Vivian stepped out of the car, her long, shapely legs immediately drew plenty of attention.
She seemed oblivious to it, and was even a little dazed. A kid came up to me and said there was a ghoul, and I actually kind of believed him... Though he wasn't that young—only four or five years younger than me, and pretty cute, too... Wait, what am I thinking? The case! The case!
A murder had taken place in her jurisdiction, so they naturally had to investigate it at once. But after making the rounds that day, Vivian had found, to her dismay, that she seemed to have come up empty-handed.
"Vivian, come to the office right away. We've got an update on the victim's file!"
But when she returned to headquarters, she was greeted by good news.
"Really? What did you find?"
Vivian immediately perked up, as if she could see the dawn of the day when the word "trainee" would be dropped from her title.
"Carpon Ansino, thirty-seven years old. International fugitive. He committed robbery and murder in Dominant City, Holy Xibalba, and resisted arrest and assaulted officers... He's got at least seven lives on his hands!"
Her somewhat balding, shiny-faced superior, Inspector Black, handed her a file. The first page held a realistic portrait, and it really did look exactly like the victim.
"He fled to our city and changed only his surname. Pretty bold! He probably thought the manhunt would weaken once he crossed a border, right?"
Vivian commented, then looked at the file's assessment. "The target has tremendous hand-to-hand combat ability and is extremely vicious.
