"Mr. Investigator... Is this ghoul really dead?"
Nietzsche stared warily at the ghoul's corpse on the ground. "According to Mister Andy, ghouls are extremely difficult to destroy. Even after their bodies die, a ravenous appetite still lingers..."
"Kid! Don't listen to rumors. I've taken care of more than a whole squadron of creatures like ghouls..." Ryan raised an eyebrow, answering with displeasure. "Those scientists have caught a few specimens for study, too. They're not nearly as terrifying as people say... Compared to them, the Sub-human Races are much more troublesome. They look so much like humans that they can hide among us..."
As he spoke, he shot Simon another glance. "Of course, you're not one of them..."
"For a supernatural creature, that ghoul died awfully easily..." Simon stared blankly for a long moment before finally speaking.
"Don't give these creatures too much credit. Ghouls are low-ranking among their kind. In ancient times, a knight could've killed one with a greatsword... And I used firearms, not to mention Enchanted Bullets!"
Ryan flashed the holster at his waist. "You're an unregistered Extraordinary Person. Tell me what you choose!"
He glanced at Arank behind Simon, evidently having already recognized what he was.
"Do I have any other choice?" Simon shrugged. "Still... I'll follow your orders, but I won't throw my life away without question!"
"Of course. Don't think the Investigation Department is that despicable. We have plenty of peripheral members and informants like you..."
Ryan looked at Vivian and Nietzsche beside him. "The reason I'm telling you all this is partly because I'd like to recruit you as informants. There's no real danger, and you'll get an extra allowance..."
"I... I need to think about it!" Miss Vivian hesitated, while Nietzsche seemed quite tempted.
"All right. None of you
