Chapter 49: 049. Robbery!
"Oh? Tell me more."
Mercer's interest was piqued. Devil Fruits, no matter the type, were very useful to him.
Useful in every way.
Seeing Mercer so happy, Karasu chuckled and said, "Caw caw."
"Just now, in the sky, flying around, I saw a group in black clothes whispering. Crow was curious, so I flew down."
A moment later, Mercer rubbed his chin, analyzing the information from Karasu's words.
The Ishu Family, which controlled the merchant guilds both inside and outside the island, was making a big move. They were secretly trading an unknown Devil Fruit with the largest mafia in West Blue.
The goal was to eliminate the law enforcement forces on the island, the troops led by the Elizabeth Family, so they could openly unify the visible powers on the island.
"Internal strife?"
Mercer chuckled, "According to you, have they already prepared to start the trade?"
Karasu cawed and nodded his bird head, "Caw, should we go? Now."
Mercer smiled, "Of course. Going to try our luck won't cost us anything. If we're lucky, we might even get a Devil Fruit for free."
Speaking of which, Mercer looked at Perona, who was perking up her ears and looking like she was eavesdropping. He smiled.
"Since you don't want to go with me, then we should say goodbye. I have something to do, and we'll meet again if there's a chance."
After speaking, Mercer stood up, brushed the grass off his body, and looked at Karasu, "Lead the way, Dabao."
"Caw!"
Karasu soared into the sky and flew into the distance.
Mercer followed closely.
After taking just two steps, he heard Perona's slightly anxious voice from behind him, "Are you really leaving?"
"Didn't you say you wanted me to go with you? Aren't you going to beg me more? Maybe I'll agree if I'm in a good mood?"
Mercer turned sideways and sized her up. She exuded a tsundere aura. He pouted, "Come if you want, don't if you don't. If you have the guts, stay here for the rest of your life. Wait until you mold, wait until you grow moss."
Perona's lips trembled, and her face was filled with anger. "You're really not cute. You're clearly younger than me, so why are you pretending to be a mature adult?"
But seeing Mercer turn and walk away, Perona's heart trembled. She quickly ran to catch up to Mercer's side and said, "Let me clarify first, don't get narcissistic. I don't want to go with you at all.
I just want to see your panda, and get revenge on that foul-mouthed crow every day. After I've seen them, I'll leave on my own.
Yes, that's it."
Mercer pouted and reached out to pull Perona's cheek beside him.
"Can you speak properly? When you talk with a crooked mouth and slanted eyes, it's obvious you're lying. If you want to come with me, just say it. Why put on a tsundere, deredere act?"
"You're the tsundere, you're the deredere! Can you even speak properly? Believe it or not, I'll make you kneel and repent with my Negative Ghost! Also, don't pull my face, it hurts."
With a snap, she batted Mercer's hand away.
"Did you forget?" Mercer smiled, a strange look on his face. "Your negative ability is ineffective against me. Also, you were the one kneeling and begging me not to hit you just now, remember?"
"It seems you're not only tsundere, but also stupid."
"I'm starting to regret it. Why don't you just leave? Go back and wait to grow moss by yourself."
"You, you, then I'm really leaving? I'm really leaving, I'm really going?"
Seeing that Mercer remained unmoved, Perona gritted her teeth, sat down on the ground, and her spiritual body appeared outside her physical body, her palm aimed at Mercer.
"Negative Ghost."
Biu~
A white, transparent ghost doll directly rushed into Mercer from his back and out of his chest.
His pupils suddenly contracted. Mercer suddenly felt a surging tide of negative emotions brewing in his mind.
His legs went weak.
He half-knelt on the ground, his lips trembling, "I, I..."
He took a deep breath.
Instantly entering the Unity of Heaven and Man state.
After a while, he regained his senses. Mercer, with a dark expression, turned to look at the bewildered Perona.
"Was that a sneak attack?"
The spiritual body Perona looked confused. "What's wrong with you? Aren't you immune to my ability?"
Suddenly, her eyes lit up. Another ghost doll shot out from her palm, passing through Mercer's body.
"Huh?" Perona looked even more bewildered. "Why isn't it working again? What's wrong with you? One minute it works, the next it doesn't?"
Mercer's face darkened as he stood up. He passed his left hand through Perona's spiritual body, grabbed her physical cheek, and lifted her up.
He raised his right fist high.
Duang~
He smashed it hard onto her head, watching a large bump appear. Mercer took a heavy breath.
Perona's spiritual face was filled with pain as she exclaimed, "You, you actually hit me?"
She quickly pulled her upper body back into her physical form and, in the next second, covered her head with both hands, screaming in pain.
Her entire body twisted like a maggot in Mercer's hands.
"This is the last time. If you sneak attack me again, I'll hit you again."
Mercer released her face and said fiercely.
Perona's face crumpled. She nodded with a look of lingering fear, "I was wrong, okay?"
Mercer pouted. "Let's go, Karasu is getting impatient."
He glanced at Karasu, who was circling in the sky, and Mercer quickly followed.
Perona sniffled, glared fiercely at Mercer, her eyes darting around. Thinking of something, she secretly giggled.
She then quickly got up and followed.
"Is it them?"
Mercer crouched in a corner of the ruins, watching a group of mafiosi about a hundred meters away, all wearing suits, ties, sunglasses, and carrying firearms.
As he observed them, Mercer's eyes widened in surprise to see a "familiar face" among them, short and plump.
Although he saw someone he "knew," Mercer's attention wasn't on him at the moment. Instead, it was on a group of people walking towards them from a distance.
One of the men, who seemed to be the leader, was carrying a briefcase. If nothing unexpected happened, it contained a Devil Fruit.
In no time, the two groups converged. They were talking about something, but both sides wore smiles.
Mercer then looked at Perona beside him, who also looked surprised, and said bluntly:
"You heard it just now, right? Karasu mentioned their Devil Fruit deal. Do you want to help me?"
Perona shot Mercer a sideways glance and muttered softly, "Are you shameless? You just hit me, and now you want me to help."
She then changed her tone, her eyes sparkling as she looked at Mercer:
"If you want this young lady to help you, you have to let me hit you back later, okay?"
Mercer smiled and reached out to press Karasu's head beside him. "Deal."
"Then, Pepe, you'll go spiritual first and burrow into the ground. Then use your Negative Hollows to take them all down. Karasu, you'll descend from the sky and grab the briefcase to run.
Then, Pepe, you'll continue using your Negative Hollows to keep them in their negative state. I'll run away with your physical body. Two minutes later, your spiritual body will return on its own. That's my battle plan. Understand?
Oh, right, Pepe, can your spiritual body burrow into the ground?"
Karasu nodded.
"I can, but..." Perona looked at Mercer somewhat confusedly, pointing at herself:
"Pepe? Are you calling me?"
Mercer rolled his eyes. "Who else would I be calling? Is there anyone else here with 'Pe' in their name?"
Perona blinked, then suddenly covered her mouth and laughed. "When did our relationship get so good that we can use pet names? I didn't know?"
Mercer's face darkened, and he said speechlessly, "Fine then, Perona."
"No." Perona reached out and covered Mercer's mouth, giggling softly, "Hahaha. It sounds quite nice. Let's leave it like that. I'll reluctantly agree to you calling me that."
"Oh, and remember to protect my body well later. Once my spiritual body leaves, my physical body won't be able to move."
As she finished speaking, Mercer saw that the opposite side had already begun the transaction. The briefcase was opened, revealing a strangely shaped fruit inside.
At this moment, Mercer patted Perona's head. "Now's the time. Battle plan begins. Pepe, go."
Perona shook her head helplessly, then her body tilted towards Mercer, her head hitting the ground.
Perona, whose spiritual body had departed, watched this scene, her eyes nearly spitting fire. She whispered, "Mercer, you bastard, is this how you take care of my body?"
Mercer gave an awkward smile. "Sorry, I wasn't paying attention just now. Okay, okay, I know I was wrong. Hurry up and go."
Saying that, he grabbed Perona by the back of her neck and pulled her up, holding her in his arms. Perona looked at this, snorted, and then her spiritual body burrowed underground and disappeared.
Mercer glanced at Karasu, who also looked over. Mercer immediately turned into a runner and quickly moved to the other side. A few seconds later, he shot up from another pile of ruins.
A hundred meters wasn't a long distance.
Twenty seconds later.
Mercer watched as a head and a small hand emerged from a corner behind the two groups. Then, four ghost dolls flew quickly along the ground.
One, two, three.
Kneel, kneel, kneel!
Someone discovered the problem and let out a startled cry, but immediately knelt down.
Within seconds, all thirty-odd people had collapsed to the ground, emitting unintelligible sounds one after another.
The leader holding the briefcase also knelt down, dropping the briefcase. The Devil Fruit inside rolled out.
Mercer watched as several ghost dolls continuously drilled in and out of them.
"Tsk, these abilities are just unreasonable. I wonder if Armament Haki can block them.
Should I find him later to test it? His Haki ability must be powerful."
Shaking his head, Mercer focused on the scene and watched Karasu descend from the sky. His claws immediately clamped onto the Devil Fruit before he shot back up.
Seeing this.
A smile tugged at the corner of Mercer's lips.
He picked up Perona's arm with his left hand, slinging her over his shoulder, and wrapped his right arm around her legs, quickly leaving the area.
Two minutes later.
Perona looked at the men in suits and thought, "Is it time? It's about time. I've counted 128 seconds. Hmm, let's give them another round."
Ghost dolls, accompanied by eerie laughter, drilled through them again before disappearing. All that remained in the air were whispers of extreme negativity.
If someone who didn't know what was going on came here, they might think they were performing some kind of cult ritual.
A few minutes later.
As the first person got up, the men in black suits followed suit, one after another. They looked at each other, embarrassment evident in their eyes.
A strange atmosphere filled the air.
After a brief silence, A short, plump man in a striped black suit looked at the empty briefcase on the ground and said calmly:
"Let's talk. Can this deal still go through today? The Devil Fruit was stolen. How does your Ishu Family plan to compensate us?"
At this moment, the leader of the Ishu Family said awkwardly:
"You don't think we leaked the information, do you? Capone Bege."
"I didn't say anything. However, the item was lost before it even reached me, so that's not my responsibility. You guys handle it," Capone Bege said calmly.
The leader looked aggrieved and said:
"Then let's leave it at that for now. We'll contact you again in a day. I'll state beforehand, this was an accident. You know the reputation of our Ishu Family; we wouldn't do such a thing."
Capone Bege raised an eyebrow and said calmly, "Then so be it. I hope you're sincere, otherwise..."
The leader looked wronged and said, "Don't worry, you'll get a reply in a day."
"Ahhhhhhhh!!!"
Perona screamed in frustration, "You bastard, is this how you protect me? Couldn't you have carried me properly?
Are you carrying a sack of sand?"
Having already left the area and now in some ruins, the spiritual form of Perona caught up and was furious at the scene before her.
Mercer blinked, looking at her in confusion, "Carried?"
"There are so many ruins and uneven ground. Carrying is so troublesome; carrying like this is more convenient."
"Besides, I protected your body very well! Why are you only focusing on these trivial matters?"
Perona's spiritual form, floating in mid-air, twitched her face, scowled, and plunged back into her body. The next moment, Mercer felt her hug him from behind, and a sharp pain shot through his side.
His eye twitched. Reflexively, he turned and bit her waist. Perona immediately let out a pig-like scream and let go. Seeing this, Mercer quickly put her down.
Mercer rubbed his waist and touched it. It was a bit sticky. He brought it to his eyes and his mouth twitched. He looked at Perona, who was squatting on the ground, clutching her waist, tears welling up in her eyes, and said speechlessly:
"You bit me, why are you drooling?"
Perona looked up at Mercer, her eyes full of rage, grinding her teeth.
"You bastard, you actually bit me? Are you a dog?"
"You're the dog, biting people for no reason whenever you disagree,"
Mercer pouted.
Perona's anger flared when she heard this. She lunged at him, flailing her arms. Seeing this, Mercer simply raised his right hand and pressed down on her head.
Easily suppressed.
Seeing this, Perona became even more enraged. She reached out and hugged Mercer's arm, looking like she still wanted to bite.
Mercer saw this, relaxed his grip, and stepped back. Perona screamed and fell towards the ground: "Help!"
Mercer quickly bent down, grabbed her by the collar of her back, and saved her.
Perona looked at the ground less than three centimeters away and couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. Reflexively, she said, "Thank you!"
With a twitch of her eye, she cursed, "You bastard, hurry up and pull me up."
Mercer glanced at her and said indifferently, "Oh!"
Then he let go.
