He raised his cane and pointed it at Mei Terumi, riling up the elite shinobi and ignorant civilians behind him.

The incited civilians couldn't tell right from wrong. They only knew that Genji was an elder of the village and a symbol of authority. They joined in the shouts, growing more and more agitated. Some even picked up stones from the ground and hurled them at Mei Terumi.
Thus began an internal trial, instigated by the village's leaders and aimed at the very woman who had come to save them.
Watching the villagers whipped into a frenzy and the Council of Elders, each filled with righteous indignation and ready to attack, the last trace of warmth in Mei Terumi's eyes vanished.
Foolish, and beyond saving.
She slowly raised a hand and let a stone strike the Chakra barrier in front of her with a dull thud before sliding helplessly to the ground.
"It seems words won't get through to you."
She murmured softly, her voice tinged with weariness and disappointment.
