Inside the medical tent, Ichiro Tanaka was tightly bound to a chair. Although he had regained his human form, his eyes were still vacant, and every so often his body would suddenly twitch.
"His mental state is very unstable." After examining him, Karin said, "The modification process caused irreversible damage to his brain."
Sasuke stepped in front of Tanaka, his Rinnegan slowly turning. "Let's begin."
"Wait." Nagato stopped him. "Reading his memories directly might drive him completely insane."
"I know what I'm doing," Sasuke said calmly. "Besides, this is the only way to get information."
He reached out and touched Tanaka's forehead. The power of his Rinnegan poured into Tanaka's brain and began searching through his memories.
But the moment it made contact, Sasuke felt a powerful resistance. Deep within Tanaka's mind was a black barrier, firmly shielding his core memories.
"Some kind of mental protection?" Sasuke frowned.
"Hahaha!" Tanaka suddenly burst into hysterical laughter. "It's useless! Lord Shadow knew this day would come! They installed a Mental Seal in all of our brains!"
"A Mental Seal?" Naruto glanced at Nagato in confusion.
"It's an advanced mental-defense technique," Nagato explained. "It's usually used to protect important information. If anyone tries to read it by force, it triggers a self-destruct protocol."
"What do we do?" Karin asked anxiously. "If we break through by force, will he die?"
Sasuke didn't answer. Instead, he increased the power of his eyes. The pattern of his Rinnegan began to spin faster, and its purple light grew brighter.
"I told you it's useless!" Tanaka said smugly. "You'll never break through Lord Shadow's seal!"
But Sasuke's expression remained calm. "Sharingan: Tsukuyomi."
