Hong Kong Island was a city of unmistakable sights and sounds.
In its cafés, steam rose from milk tea and mingled with the smell of curry fish balls. Office workers in suits brushed past street toughs on the corners, while police sirens and Cantonese opera from Temple Street took turns filling the air.
Li Dan's impression of the city came from the golden age of Hong Kong cinema.
Even people who had never visited Hong Kong Island knew Causeway Bay, Tsim Sha Tsui, Portland Street, Kowloon Walled City, the Regent Hotel...
And the moment they reached the docks, the classic score from A Better Tomorrow would start playing in their heads.
Along with that famous exchange.
"When I was doing business in Taiwan..."
"Just say you were in prison. What business?"
Now that Li Dan had finally seen Hong Kong Island for himself, he had to admit it lived up to its reputation.
There weren't many street toughs around, though. They existed, but they were nothing like the huge gangs in the movies.
Hachishaku-hime and Xuexu had both disguised themselves. If they appeared on the street as they really looked, they would cause panic and draw a crowd.
In fact, people were already starting to stare.
An instant later, Li Dan and Tamamo-no-Mae looked like an ordinary young couple to everyone else.
First things first.
Li Dan went to buy a mansion. Hotels here struck him as too chaotic; buying a few villas would be simpler.
On Hong Kong Island, money alone wasn't enough to buy property in a prime location. You needed connections to back you up.
Li Dan had both money and connections, and his money was in foreign currency. For connections, he relied on his wife Angela. She seemed to belong to some family in North America.
