Over the following days, she trained while finding time to process medicinal herbs into medicinal pillows and scented sachets.
The teachers usually took good care of her and Little Bell, so she made a few small things to repay them.
The teachers all reacted differently upon receiving the gifts, but they shared one thing in common: they were all deeply moved and said they would treasure them.
Teacher Zhao, especially, was built like a bear. The way he carefully held the pillow made it seem as though he were holding a bomb. He could not have looked more serious.
The teachers were usually quite gentle, but the moment they entered training mode, they revealed their cold, merciless sides.
Shen Ranxi had not originally needed to participate. This was a training program meant only for advanced students, but she felt that her physical strength could fully withstand it. She promised to withdraw immediately if she could not manage, and the teachers reluctantly agreed.
Shen Ranxi attacked the teachers alongside the Senior Students. Whenever she made even a minor mistake or oversight, the Dragon Patterned Stick or Star Luo Chess would strike her body.
The teachers controlled their attacks precisely, so they did not cause serious injury, but they hurt terribly.
The first time she was struck, Shen Ranxi failed to control the grimace twisting across her face. Her features practically flew apart, and she cried out in pain.
No matter how much it hurt, the teachers would not Hold Back. If she knowingly repeated the same mistakes and refused to learn, each blow would only grow heavier.
Oscar laughed arrogantly from the side. Zhao Wuji and the others already felt somewhat reluctant to treat a little girl this way.
Then Oscar let out an obnoxious ducklike cackle from the side, so a Big Hand grabbed him and dragged him in to experience it for himself.
When it was his turn, his expression became even more of a mess than Shen Ranxi's, and his screams were louder than pigs being slaughtered in the Village.
Both of them were covered in bruises, Bruised and Swollen. Oscar had it easier, since he only needed to study under Teacher Shao afterward, while Shen Ranxi still had to cultivate alone under Li Yusong, continuing her training with injuries all over her body.
The teachers could barely bear to look.
Under the teachers' guidance, she grew increasingly proficient with her movement techniques. She had now fully adapted to the Golden Cudgel's weight and could casually wield it without using Soul Power.
Every morning, she swung the Golden Cudgel ten thousand times within Teacher Zhao's Gravity Field. Teacher Zhao then carried her to the Cafeteria, where she ate Teacher Shao Xin's Sugar Beans. After recovering and finishing her meal, she went with Li Yusong to catch fish. They had now moved to spearing fish in a larger, more rapid river, since the Academy's teachers had already eaten more than enough fish.
Shen Ranxi herself was the same. The moment she saw a fish, she felt nauseated, so she could only give them to the elderly Villagers.
At daybreak, Shen Ranxi got up.
She began her daily training. Oscar was also waiting outside, hopping around as he warmed up.
Shen Ranxi had never expected Oscar to truly persist. After spending so long with him, she knew he was not particularly diligent by nature. He also had few worries and no lofty ambitions. Even the Academy's teachers were astonished by his perseverance.
Flender chuckled and teased that this meant there was one less thing for him to worry about.
Oscar did not know why he forced himself to sweat it out here like an Assault System Soul Master. Perhaps it was because of what Little Xi had said, or perhaps because of her tenacity... who knew?
At lunchtime, the Academy's great bell rang again.
"Little Ao, you've truly inherited Teacher Shao's skills. The food you make is getting more and more delicious." Shen Ranxi gave him a thumbs-up.
Little Bell grinned beside them. "Yeah, Brother Little Ao is getting more and more amazing."
Oscar did not even raise his head as he ate. He knew she liked spicy food, so he had specially added chili to her portion.
After eating, she turned bright red.
Upon hearing the bell, Shen Ranxi grabbed a steamed bun from the table and headed outside while eating it. The Academy had little money, but the teachers had already done their best to feed them well. They could not waste food.
Before the two even reached the training ground, they heard a piercing cry of "Aaaahhh—!" When they got closer, they saw a Little Fatty hanging from Dean Flender's body, shrieking wildly.
"The food here must be pretty good for this Little Fatty," Shen Ranxi could not help remarking.
Following her gaze, Oscar stroked his chin and Looked Over. A Little Fatty with a red Mohawk was clinging tightly to the Dean's leg.
Not a single tear could be seen as he wailed, "Didn't you say I was coming here to enjoy myself? You said that being an honorable Lord Soul Master meant endless chicken legs to eat and lots of fun! But instead, I'm stuck in this rundown Village... boohoohoo."
Several teachers watched the scene with great interest. Zhao Wuji roared impatiently, "Flender, weren't you going to the Village for Martial Soul Awakening? Why did you bring back this little snot-nosed brat and summon all of us?"
Flender used a little force to pry the Little Fatty off himself and made him stand properly.
"I did go for Martial Soul Awakening. I also happened to take in a Direct Disciple. Ma Hongjun's Martial Soul has undergone a Martial Soul Mutation. That Village only has poultry, but his mutation gave him a strange flame with powerful adhesion. If he can overcome its weaknesses, it could become a true Phoenix." As he spoke, he could not suppress the smile at the Corner of Mouth.
The others immediately understood. This old fellow simply wanted to show off.
No wonder Dean Flender had accepted him as a Direct Disciple. He was very likely to possess an Ultimate Beast Martial Soul in the future. After studying here for so long, Shen Ranxi naturally understood the significance of those words. Still, it had little to do with her, so after greeting them, she wanted to leave with her Teacher.
"Oscar, take Hong Jun to the dormitory. You're both reserves, so you'll be doing things together from now on." Flender stretched lazily. After traveling for so long, he needed a proper rest. He would toss this Little Fatty to Oscar and Little Xi first, then go get some sleep.
Shen Ranxi and Oscar stared blankly as the Dean tossed the Little Fatty to them as though throwing away a burden.
Oscar, in particular, stared at Flender's departing figure with dead fish eyes.
"Hey, this young master is Ma Hongjun. What are your names?" The Little Fatty patted off his backside and stood up as though nothing had happened.
"My name is Oscar, and she's Shen Ranxi." Oscar gave Ma Hongjun a friendly smile.
Shen Ranxi merely smiled without speaking. This Little Fatty was rather arrogant. Young master? No one had ever dared call themselves her master.
"Come on. Let's get him settled first. I still haven't finished my training." Shen Ranxi took the lead in leaving.
"Hey, hey." Seeing that this pretty Young Girl was ignoring him, Ma Hongjun curiously moved closer to Oscar. Boys got along after only a few words.
"Why's she so cold? She looks even more high and mighty than this young master." Standing on tiptoe, Ma Hongjun slung an arm around the Pretty Boy's shoulders.
Ever since awakening as a Soul Master, no one in the Village had dared give him a bad look. They even praised his mischief. This was only the second person who had refused to treat him nicely.
The first was naturally Flender.
"Little Xi... I'd advise you not to provoke Little Xi. I'm a Support System Soul Master, so I can't do much to you, but Little Xi is different. She's a Little Tyrannosaurus."
"What, is she strong? Does she have a bad temper?" Ma Hongjun asked defiantly.
Oscar said, "Little Xi is usually very easy to get along with, but if you provoke her, you're doomed."
The Corner of Mouth of Shen Ranxi's lips lifted slightly as she tilted her head back. "Walk faster! What are you two whispering about back there?"
She felt that being fiercer in some situations was a good thing. It let people know where her boundaries lay.
The two gossiping behind her jumped in fright and guiltily quickened their pace.
