At the center of the belt, a mechanical fortress over a hundred kilometers in diameter floated in the void. Its surface was covered in damaged conduits and blinking indicator lights, and countless purple energy waves poured from launch ports atop the fortress, spreading like a colossal net over the surrounding star system. Below, controlled interstellar creatures with purple-glowing eyes charged aimlessly at the Defense Barriers Void Shadow had erected. The energy along the barriers' surfaces was rapidly draining away.

"Void Shadow, what's the situation?" Chu Yunyi asked over the communicator.

"These Memory Puppets have no independent consciousness. They only know how to destroy things and spread the energy waves," Void Shadow replied, his voice weary. "We tried using Void Energy to sever their connection to the waves, but the waves are too powerful. As soon as we cut the connection, they reconnect. And the energy readings inside the fortress are growing stronger. It's as if something is about to awaken."
