The Vessel Expansion Realm is the first of the three Qi Refining stages, followed by Aperture Opening and Marrow Cleansing 174. It represents the transition from the Body Refining Realm's Internal Strength to the use of Internal Qi, which can communicate with and draw upon the primal energy of heaven and earth 196 203.

Meridians and Qi Sea

Body Refining cultivators open the Twelve Body Meridians, which are associated with the organs and circulate Internal Strength. The Vessel Expansion Realm instead relies on the Eight Great Qi Meridians, which store and transport Internal Qi 262.
