Chapter Summaries

Bai Yue rescued Yakumo Kurama from Ido, altered her memories to make Ido a false culprit, and arranged for her recovery and ninja training. He then took Karin and Tayuya to register as Konoha ninja, telling Tayuya to wear a mask.

• Yakumo Kurama remembered her parents’ deaths, and Bai Yue put her to sleep after sealing her spiritual power.
• Bai Yue introduced Karin and Tayuya to Kurenai Yuhi and explained that he planned to alter Yakumo Kurama’s memories rather than leave a blank spot.
• Bai Yue changed Yakumo Kurama’s memories so Ido had been sent by a mysterious force and Kurenai Yuhi had saved her.
• Bai Yue arranged for Yakumo Kurama to recover at Konoha Hospital and later join Team Guy for Taijutsu training.
• Bai Yue gave Karin and Tayuya Konoha forehead protectors and took them to register as ninja, instructing Tayuya to wear a mask.

Bai Yue brought Karin Uzumaki and Tayuya to Minato's House, where Kushina welcomed them and put them to work preparing lunch. Naruto, Sasuke, and Gaara returned home and learned there was a new older sister in the kitchen.

• Shikaku recognized Tayuya, but Bai Yue assured him he had his own plans and left with the two girls after completing their registration.

• Tayuya showed Sasuke her Double Tomoe Sharingan, and Sasuke apologized for the Uchiha massacre before Bai Yue called everyone to dinner.
• Bai Yue teleported Tayuya and Karin home, asked Aunt Hanako to look after them, and left for work.
• Uzuki Yugao covered the sleeping Bai Yue with clothing and carried documents out of his office, while Shikaku questioned her belief that the Hokage worked hard.
• Shikaku passed Bai Yue a report saying Orochimaru had abducted a renowned divine physician from a village.
• Bai Yue recognized the physician’s visitor as Shennong’s disciple and ordered Shikaku to bring her to him, hoping to find the Zero-Tails.

Bai Yue extracted the Zero-Tails implanted in Yu Liu and discovered how it could be repurposed to strengthen the True Illusionary Realm. He planned to mass-produce emotional cores and seek out more hosts, beginning with the prisoners on Kusagakure’s island.

• Yu Liu begged Bai Yue to save her teacher, and Bai Yue examined the implanted Zero-Tails with Kurama in the True Illusionary Realm.
• Bai Yue sealed the Zero-Tails inside Yu Liu, extracted it from her chest, and explained that it fed on and amplified negative emotions.
• Yu Liu defended her teacher when Shikaku suspected him, but Bai Yue declined to help investigate and had the Anbu take her away.
• Bai Yue began analyzing the Zero-Tails and realized he could make more by condensing negative emotions into energy cores.
• Bai Yue recalled the prisoners on Kusagakure’s island and planned to obtain the Box of Bliss and use prisoners as hosts.
• Bai Yue considered creating Zero-Tails from all human emotions so everyone could host one and help the True Illusionary Realm grow.

Bai Yue confronted Shennong, learned that Zero-Tails had once been placed inside Yu Liu, and claimed he had already obtained it. He then located and stored the Sky Fortress in the True Illusionary Realm, leaving Orochimaru curious about his abilities and still in service as his vanguard.

• Bai Yue arrived with Tayuya and had Orochimaru take them to Shennong, whom he set on fire to force a confession.
• Shennong revealed that he had placed Zero-Tails inside Yu Liu, but Bai Yue said he had already obtained Zero-Tails and continued burning him.
• Bai Yue asked Orochimaru where the Sky Fortress was, and Orochimaru showed him its approximate location on a map.
• Bai Yue teleported himself, Orochimaru, and Tayuya to the Sky Fortress and stored the enormous structure in the True Illusionary Realm.
• Orochimaru questioned whether Bai Yue had used Flying Thunder God, and Bai Yue said he would explain when the time was right.

Bai Yue ordered Orochimaru to investigate the dangerous entity Mōryō and promised him a reward for his work. After offering to transplant Orochimaru a pair of Sharingan, Bai Yue returned to Orochimaru’s base, where Orochimaru learned that another research project had made a breakthrough.

• Bai Yue ordered Orochimaru to investigate Mōryō thoroughly and warned him not to act on his own.
• Bai Yue told Orochimaru that Tayuya was now Uchiha Tayuya and offered to arrange a pair of Sharingan for him.
• Orochimaru asked Bai Yue to transplant Sharingan for him, and Bai Yue said even Mangekyō Sharingan could be possible if Orochimaru performed exceptionally well.
• Bai Yue returned with Orochimaru and Tayuya to Orochimaru’s Secret Base, then left after reminding Orochimaru to report his findings through the communication snakes.
• The Dream Fulfillment Ambassador told Orochimaru that the research he had assigned had made a breakthrough.

Mei Terumi reported that unidentified attackers had struck the Land of Water Branch, and Shikaku suspected the attack was the start of a campaign by Iwagakure. With Hokage-sama unreachable, Shikaku called an advisory meeting to decide how to respond.

• Mei Terumi burst into the Hokage’s office to report that the Land of Water Branch had been attacked and suffered more than a hundred dead and wounded.
• Uzuki Yugao told Mei that Hokage-sama had been absent for about half a month, so Mei reported the crisis to Shikaku instead.
• Shikaku sent the Flying Thunder God Squad to check the Hyuga Residence, but Namiashi Raidō returned to say Hokage-sama was not there.
• Shikaku suspected Ōnoki had hired rogue ninja to attack and warned Mei that the enemy wanted to fuel resentment among the villages.
• Shikaku called the advisors to discuss the attack, and Utatane Koharu told Mei to give them advance notice about such matters.

Shikaku and the advisors arranged reinforcements for the attacked Land of Water Branch while Bai Yue was away, and Bai Yue approved their plan after returning to Konoha. He also decided to send Shadow Clones to the branches in case a stronger attack followed.

• Utatane Koharu warned Mei Terumi about the former Kirigakure and Sunagakure groups privately sharing intelligence with their old leaders.
• Shikaku proposed dispatching ninja to the two branches in a 3:3:4 ratio, and the advisors agreed despite Ebizo's concerns about acting without Bai Yue's order and the cost.

Bai Yue sent Shadow Clones to the Land of Water and Land of Wind branches, then dispatched more to capture residents and pressure the villages. After greeting Karin, he entered the True Illusionary Realm to begin his Zero-Tails experiment.

• Bai Yue summoned over a hundred Shadow Clones, dismissed the ones who looked eager to cause trouble, and assigned the rest to the Land of Water and Land of Wind branches.
• Bai Yue dismissed a Shadow Clone that tried to switch sides and learned it had planned to find Maki and make her his girlfriend.
• Bai Yue ordered the remaining Shadow Clones to keep their deployment secret and left to prepare the Zero-Tails experiment in Kusagakure.

Bai Yue completed two versions of the Zero-Tails and returned to Konoha to learn that attacks on its divisions had been repelled and Utakata had gone missing. Shikaku confronted Bai Yue over his apparent inaction against the Akatsuki Organization and suspected he had allowed Gaara’s capture.

• Bai Yue finished developing the dark and ordinary versions of the Zero-Tails, then left the True Illusionary Realm to collect the results of his Shadow Clones’ work.
• Bai Yue asked Uzuki Yugao for recent news, and she reported attacks on divisions in the Land of Wind and the Land of Water, Utakata’s disappearance, and military funds from the Land of Water.

Bai Yue reassured Shikaku that he had let the Akatsuki extract the One-Tail for fun and to pressure Konoha’s rival factions into uniting. He then found Tingting among the captured attackers in the True Illusionary Realm, where she escaped after he removed her seal and later encountered Haku and Zabuza.

• Bai Yue told Shikaku that his goal was probably fun, and Shikaku accepted that he meant Konoha no harm.
• Bai Yue returned to the cave, dispelled his Shadow Clones, and collected the captured attackers, including Tingting.
• Bai Yue removed Tingting’s seal, but she refused to transform or answer him, so he left her behind in the True Illusionary Realm.

Tingting entered the True Illusionary Realm and met Haku, Zabuza, Toneri, and Bai Yue. After Bai Yue promised to handle the consequences of her life-consuming Forbidden Jutsu, she used Mayfly Ninjutsu and transformed, leaving Toneri deeply shocked.

• Haku questioned Tingting about who had brought her in, and Zabuza appeared before leaving after she said she did not know the man’s name.
• Tingting fled from Haku, ran into the realm’s invisible wall, and was confronted by Toneri.
• Bai Yue arrived and praised Toneri for completing the Tenseigan’s three gestations, then told him to improve his combat experience.
• Tingting asked Bai Yue to promise help for the Fuma Clan before she used her Forbidden Jutsu, and Bai Yue told her to proceed.
• Tingting used Mayfly Ninjutsu and transformed from an ugly, bucktoothed man into a beautiful maiden, stunning Toneri.

Bai Yue examined Tingting’s life-draining Forbidden Jutsu, temporarily stabilized her, and asked her to write it down so he could improve it. He then took Otsutsuki Toneri to Konoha and left him with Hyuga Bun to explore the area.

• Bai Yue teased Otsutsuki Toneri about Haku and stopped Tingting when she began speaking as if she were about to die for his favor.
• Bai Yue discovered that Tingting’s four Chakra wings consumed her life force and Chakra, then used seals to temporarily stop the drain.
• Bai Yue asked Tingting to write out her Forbidden Jutsu and learned that Orochimaru had disappeared, leaving her clan and other ninja behind.
• Bai Yue summoned Otsutsuki Toneri and brought him to his residence in Konoha.
• Bai Yue asked Hyuga Bun to show Toneri around, then watched Toneri with his Byakugan as they left.

Bai Yue went to Root to take Hidan and learn how to contact the Evil God, then demanded Sharingan from Danzo. Danzo realized Bai Yue could see through his hidden eyes and knew about Izanagi, leaving him frightened and powerless.

• After deciding Hidan might help him find the Evil God, Bai Yue went to Root and found Hidan suspended and being experimented on.
• Bai Yue took Hidan despite Danzo's protests, explaining that he wanted information about the Evil God rather than Hidan's immortal body.
• Bai Yue ordered the Root members to leave and demanded that Danzo provide him with Sharingan.
• Bai Yue exposed Danzo's concealed Sharingan and reminded him of his skill with Sealing Jutsu, making Danzo sweat with fear.
• Bai Yue asked whether Izanagi was useful, and Danzo froze as he realized Bai Yue knew about his trump card.

Bai Yue took two pairs of Sharingan from Danzo and relaxed, but he was soon summoned after learning Toneri had lost a dangerous amount of blood. At Konoha Hospital, he found Toneri with Naruto, Sasuke, and Jiraiya, who suspected Toneri was connected to Bai Yue.

• Bai Yue accompanied Danzo to his hidden chamber, where Ryoma Aburame opened the Secret Room.
• Danzo gave Bai Yue his two remaining pairs of Three Tomoe Sharingan, then lamented that he could not oppose Bai Yue.
• Bai Yue returned home to rest, but Hyuga Bun reported that Toneri had lost too much blood and been taken to Konoha Hospital by Naruto.
• Bai Yue used his Byakugan to locate Toneri at the hospital, where Naruto anxiously asked Jiraiya if Toneri would recover.

Bai Yue learned that Toneri had collapsed after Naruto used the Harem Technique during Jiraiya’s training, then assigned the unconscious boy to Jiraiya’s temporary class. He also said Sakura would train with a more suitable teacher for a while, leaving Jiraiya protesting that his class was becoming a kindergarten.

• Bai Yue struck Sasuke and Naruto for causing trouble, then chased Jiraiya off by activating the Eight Inner Gates.

• Bai Yue told Jiraiya that Toneri might be the Child of Prophecy, then explained that the Otsutsuki Clan descended from the Sage of Six Paths’ brother and lived on the moon.

Bai Yue allowed Jiraiya, Naruto, Sasuke, and Toneri to leave Konoha for missions, and Jiraiya took them toward the Land of Hot Water. Meanwhile, Deidara and Sasori attacked the Three-Tails, and Deidara’s explosive clay left Isobu badly injured and floating belly-up in the lake.

• Bai Yue told Jiraiya that he could take Naruto, Sasuke, and Toneri on missions outside the village, as long as they did not act alone.
• Jiraiya hurriedly led Naruto, Sasuke, and Toneri toward the Land of Hot Water.
• Black Zetsu confirmed that the Three-Tails was in the lake, and Deidara bombed the water to draw it out.
• The Three-Tails surfaced and fought Deidara, but Deidara’s nano-bombs severely injured Isobu.
• Deidara sent explosive clay fish after the retreating Isobu, and their blasts overturned it belly-up on the lake’s surface.

Deidara and Sasori captured the Three-Tails Isobu, but Konoha reinforcements arrived and fought Sasori. Might Guy destroyed most of Sasori's puppets, leaving the battle unresolved after Hiruko was shattered and the team discovered Sasori's unusual body.

• Deidara bound the fallen Three-Tails Isobu to clay birds and fled while Sasori stayed behind to hold off a Konoha Jonin.
• Sasori attacked the Jonin with poison mist and needles, but Might Guy and Team Guy arrived with other Konoha ninja and drove him back.
• Might Guy charged through Sasori's puppets and, with the other ninja, dismantled most of them.
• Sasori activated Hiruko's mechanisms, but Might Guy dodged the barrage and smashed the puppet apart.
• Might Guy and Neji realized the young figure inside Hiruko might be Sasori's main body, while Sasori continued fighting without explaining his unusual nature.

Might Guy's team encountered Bai Yue's Shadow Clone while pursuing the Three-Tails, and Guy fought it while the real objective was already secured. After the enemy vanished beyond Neji's Byakugan, the team withdrew with Sasori as their prisoner and brought him to Bai Yue.

• Qin Gui reported that an enemy had fled northwest with the Three-Tails, so Might Guy led the group in pursuit.
• Bai Yue's Shadow Clone attacked with Water and Earth Release, forcing Might Guy to open the Fifth Gate and then the Sixth Gate to break through its techniques.
• Neji told Might Guy that the enemy had vanished from his Byakugan's sight, and the group decided to withdraw rather than risk pursuing.
• Might Guy's team returned to the Land of Water Branch with Sasori captured, while Guy's fiery enthusiasm made him famous there.
• Might Guy brought Sasori to Bai Yue and announced that they had caught a big fish.
