On a bustling grassland, Benjamin looked at the creature in his grasp, a rare hint of surprise crossing his face.
The creature stood nearly five meters tall, with slender legs and grayish-brown feathers covering its entire body. It had a long neck and a ring of short crest feathers atop its head.
At first glance, it looked almost exactly like an ostrich magnified several times over.
Benjamin was surprised because he recognized this creature.
When he first entered the Sacred Spirit Plane cluster, he had seen them in the plane controlled by the King of Spreading Fear.
There, these creatures were penned up as livestock, with almost nothing about them worth noting.
Benjamin had analyzed them before and concluded that they had actually been highly intelligent creatures originally.
But after the Spirit Race conquered them and infested them with tentacles, their civilization collapsed. Even their original supernatural powers vanished almost entirely, leaving them as nothing more than livestock and food for the Spirit Race.
Yet now, Benjamin had discovered a population of them in the Central World.
Several hundred of these creatures had gathered in this area, forming a sizable tribe.
They built crude houses, fashioned tools from stone and wood, and even had a simple division of labor. The one Benjamin had caught, for instance, was a "hunter" out searching for food.
"How should I put this... the level of civilization these ostriches have now is rather curious." Benjamin rubbed his chin as he watched the ostrich still trying to attack him.
The spatial pressure in the Central World was too great for him to extend his mental power and investigate.
The only reason he had discovered this population was that one of them had mistaken him for prey.
