Silad had just sat down and lifted his coffee cup. He had finally found the mood to relax, and Sanger had already laid a tight net. As long as Fang Mo dared show up on the battlefield, he wouldn't escape.
But before the coffee could reach his lips, a piercing alarm shattered the command room's silence.
"Red alert! Red alert!"
"Abnormal energy fluctuations detected in the direction of the Black Flame Mountain Range! Intensity is rising rapidly!"
Silad's hand trembled, spilling half the coffee. He didn't even bother to wipe it up, lunging straight for the holographic projection.
On the screen, the silent Fire Domain at the heart of the Black Flame Mountain Range was now churning violently. Lava surged like boiling water, and pillars of flame shot into the sky one after another, setting the entire heavens ablaze in crimson.
"What's going on?!"
His voice had gone shrill.
The staff officer hammered frantically at the console as streams of data poured down like waterfalls.
"Report! A large number of Mutant Beast energy signatures detected! The numbers—the numbers can't be counted! At least five times more than before!"
"Heaven-tier! Heaven-tier Mutant Beast energy detected! One... two... five... ten..."
The staff officer's voice began to tremble, his face deathly pale.
"Fifteen! Report! Fifteen Heaven-tier Mutant Beasts confirmed! The number is still rising..."
In the holographic projection, an enormous Flame Giant Bird burst skyward from the lava.
Its wings spread wide, blotting out the heavens and the sun. Pure white flames burned around it, and every beat of its wings sent towering waves of lava surging upward.
It threw back its head and let out a long cry.
The cry seemed to pierce through the screen, as if it could freeze a person's soul.
