At the summit of Yin Lei Mountain, the thunderclouds hung like an enormous black wok turned upside down. Countless silver-snake bolts of lightning darted wildly through the clouds, and their roars as they tore through the sky made even the air tremble.
Xia Fanbai dangled from Fang Mo's grip, suspended at the edge of the thunderclouds. The violent currents had already made his scalp prickle, and every strand of hair stood on end as if pulled by an invisible hand.
"Fang Mo... the power of this lightning..." Xia Fanbai's voice quavered almost imperceptibly. He could see the rocks below on Yin Lei Mountain burst into blinding white light when struck by lightning. Shards of stone shot in every direction like fireworks, while the air filled with the pungent smell of ozone and burning.
Fang Mo didn't look back. His gaze remained fixed on the region ahead, where bolts of lightning tangled together. "Nanomachines are essentially miniature machines. Lightning might interfere with their circuitry. But the lightning on Yin Lei Mountain contains tremendous power from heaven and earth—it's no ordinary lightning. If you can withstand it, not only might we cure the infestation, but your body may also transform. You might even advance further."
His expression was grave as he looked at Xia Fanbai and spoke in a low voice:
"But once the lightning enters your body, the nanomachines might attack immediately. Be prepared. If you fail, you may have only one outcome: death!"
Xia Fanbai drew a deep breath. The pressure from the thunderclouds made his chest feel tight.
He remembered the horrors he'd witnessed in Red Rock City—the corpses eaten away by nanomachines until all that remained was a mangled heap of flesh and blood.
Compared to that, this lightning tribulation at least offered a glimmer of hope.
