He drew his sword, kicked Ancestor's corpse aside, then turned and walked toward where that mysterious presence was.
"What are you waiting for?" Dao Lord Taichu's voice brimmed with threat. "Now, it's your turn."
The mysterious presence's voice came from the void, still carrying a trace of disappointment. "Do you really think killing Ancestor will allow you to escape me? You're far too naive."
Dao Lord Taichu frowned slightly. He was not naive, but he knew he had no other choice.
He walked to where the mysterious voice had come from and looked around, yet saw nothing but an empty expanse of void.
"Come out. Stop hiding." Dao Lord Taichu spoke warily.
Suddenly, a black radiance flashed out of the void and took the form of a black-robed man. His face was shrouded in darkness, impossible to see clearly.
He sneered. "Do you think you can find me? Your strength is nowhere near enough."
Dao Lord Taichu said calmly, "I don't need overwhelming strength to deal with you. As long as my conviction is firm, that will be enough."
The black-robed man snorted. "Conviction? What can conviction possibly do? You're too naive. Far too naive."
Dao Lord Taichu tightened his grip on his sword. A powerful aura emanated from him, as though heaven and earth themselves were responding to his resolve.
"I know who you are now," he said. "You're Ancestor Xutian, the one who has always coveted my soul."
Ancestor Xutian's gaze became even colder. "That's right. I am Ancestor Xutian. I have been waiting for your arrival—waiting for your soul."
A fierce rage surged through Dao Lord Taichu. He no longer wished to be manipulated by Ancestor Xutian. He wanted to break free from his control.
