"Replicant?"
Vice President Zheng crossed his arms and said in a low voice, "I can't just pretend I didn't hear you talk about My Lord like that."
Lu Bai spread his hands. "Then why don't you do something about it?"
He'd already suspected that Vice President Zheng—or the higher-ups in Can Society, for that matter—weren't all that loyal to those so-called Lords.
When he'd first heard about Can Society, its stated principles had led him to think its members were all a bunch of extremists with something wrong in their heads.
But after meeting some of them, he could tell they weren't true extremists. They were perfectly capable of having a normal conversation.
Some of the society's officers were even outstanding by the standards of the Deathmatch Arena's fighters.
Would people like that really let some so-called Lord lead them around by the nose and obey his every command?
Lu Bai's smile took on a hint of amusement.
Vice President Zheng clicked his tongue, then changed the subject. "So what exactly did you do to make My Lord go to so much trouble to descend and find you?"
"How should I know? I ran into him in the Deathmatch Arena and killed him on the spot."
"Surely it wasn't that simple?"
Vice President Zheng narrowed his eyes and probed, "There are plenty of Replicants in the Deathmatch Arena, and people lose all the time. But this was clearly an attempt to come down here and silence you."
Even the members of Can Society didn't know what it cost to descend.
But the fact that descents were so rare gave them some idea of how difficult it was.
In fact, even when a fighter humiliated a Replicant in the Deathmatch Arena before killing him, the Replicant usually didn't come after him
