"Your Excellency Ishmael, was it really a good idea to do that?"
Watching the last Missionary leave the office, Daly Simone couldn't help asking.
"What's wrong with it?"
Luther took the Record she handed him. It listed the names and results of everyone who had reported on their work.
"In the past, the Missionaries' reports were handled with more of a personal touch. His Excellency the Archbishop would meet each of them individually, then they would offer prayers to the Goddess together and talk in the reception room so he could learn what each person had accomplished over the past year. He also had to consider their positions, seniority, and rank before deciding how they compared..."
"I don't have that much time to waste."
Luther shook his head and cut her off. "Besides, what works for Archbishop Anthony won't necessarily work for me."
If he patiently spoke with every Missionary while wearing a warm smile, the incongruity would probably frighten them even more. Better to keep it businesslike, judge everything by results, and get the whole nuisance over with quickly.
After all, a diocese head really did have plenty of work to do.
"All right, there's no problem with any of the Missionaries' evaluations. Send this to the Cathedral."
After checking the list, he signed it and handed it back to Daly. Then he glanced at the office clock. "Hmm, an hour earlier than expected. Perfect. I'm going to find a restaurant and enjoy lunch. Anything else can wait until I get back this afternoon."
With that, Luther stood up. "Your Excellency, don't you still have a lot of unfinished work? Wouldn't it be better to use this hour to get more done?"
