"So far, we've sent three Spacetime Bulletins. I think it's necessary to summarize the patterns and mysteries involved."
Jiang Ran pulled the small blackboard over to the lab bench and began writing as he summarized.
"[The first Spacetime Bulletin transmission] was purely accidental. A blind cat stumbled upon a dead mouse."
It was an apt description.
There had been far too many extreme coincidences at the time.
While packing up, senior Yan Rui from the Film Club had unearthed an old relic—the Positron Cannon. Out of curiosity, he placed it on the table, where it happened to be aimed at the transformer distribution box outside the window.
After the Positron Cannon activated, it ran for only 0.7 seconds before burning out the circuit and causing a power outage.
During those 0.7 seconds, the positron beam struck the high-voltage transformer, happening to form a Spacetime Black Hole that lasted 0.7 seconds.
And Jiang Ran, at the time, happened to be standing beside the distribution box and happened to press the send button within those 0.7 seconds, transmitting the bulletin's radio waves.
The Spacetime Black Hole then captured those radio waves, carried them through time and space back into the past, delivered them three days earlier, and completed an entirely accidental Spacetime Bulletin transmission.
That event had been nothing but an improbably fortunate coincidence. With so many "happenings," even slightly worse luck would have made it impossible.
"[The second Spacetime Bulletin transmission] was our first test after repairing the Positron Cannon."
It had only been a test experiment.
None of them had been sure whether it would work, but it had truly succeeded.
The test bulletin was successfully sent three days into the past, changing the original history and causing another Worldline Shift.
The test experiment had been perfect, except...
Cheng Mengxue's phone had somehow received two bulletins.
The second bulletin had appeared out of nowhere, and the mysterious garbled numbers on it remained undeciphered to this day.
Jiang Ran continued writing.
"[The third Spacetime Bulletin transmission] was our first deliberate transmission after we had grasped certain patterns. We attempted to actively rewrite the course of history, trigger a Worldline Jump, and bring Xu Yan, who had died in an accident, back to life."
That attempt had been crucial.
Because it had been a purposeful... challenge to established history.
It had been the opening of Pandora's Box,
the beginning of an attempt to manipulate history,
a verification of Worldline Theory,
and proof that they could command the power of time and space.
Jiang Ran set down the chalk and brushed the powder from his fingertips.
"After these three experiments, we've basically grasped the principles and rules for using the Spacetime Bulletin. Little Xue, you're up."
"Coming!"
Cheng Mengxue had been writing on a sheet of whiteboard paper the whole time.
She stood up, picked up a magnet, and attached the sheet covered in large writing to the small blackboard.
"This is what I just summarized... the rules and key points about the Spacetime Bulletin. I'll go through them one by one."
In bold letters, the whiteboard paper read—
Spacetime Message User Manual (Version 1.0)
[1. Spacetime Bulletins can only be sent three days into the past.]
[2. The transmission window for Spacetime Bulletins lasts only 0.7 seconds.]
[3. After the Positron Cannon overloads, it must remain powered off for 20 hours before it can be used again.]
[4. A successful bulletin transmission will trigger a Spacetime Shift, and only Jiang Ran can sense that shift.]
[5. A Spacetime Shift represents a Worldline Jump, but only Jiang Ran possesses "Omni-Spacetime Memory."]
?
Jiang Ran stared at the final point.
"What is [Omni-Spacetime Memory]?"
"It's the name I came up with for your special constitution."
Cheng Mengxue put her hands on her hips.
"Isn't it cool?"
"It's way too chuuni..."
"Come on, it's such a fitting definition! The way we put it before was too wordy. We need something simpler."
She argued her case with all her might.
"The Worldline has changed so many times, but haven't you retained your memories every single time? Those histories of time and space that none of us remember anymore, those that have already vanished... they're all in your head."
"So since you have memories from every timeline, calling your special constitution [Omni-Spacetime Memory] is practically the perfect name!"
"Whatever." Jiang Ran felt that the name did not matter.
He looked at the Spacetime Message User Manual (Version 1.0) and thought...
Actually.
Many of the rules on it might not be absolutely accurate.
But since this was only a provisional version, it would do for now.
At worst, they could update it to Version 2.0 or Version 3.0 after making new discoveries.
So then.
Next.
It was Qin Feng's turn to summarize.
"I'll talk about what I think of this Positron Cannon."
Qin Feng walked over to the lab bench.
"This device's principles are unknown, its structure is unknown, and its effects are unknown. Anyway, I don't believe it can truly fire a positron beam. Fine, it does seem capable of firing some sort of energy mass, but I have to say, that absolutely cannot be a positron beam. Physics won't allow it."
"Get to the point," Jiang Ran interrupted.
"Since we don't dare dismantle the core components, research has been progressing very slowly."
Qin Feng continued.
"But I have a feeling that Spacetime Bulletins definitely aren't limited to being sent only three days into the past. There must be some kind of [variable] that can control the 'depth' of the Spacetime Black Hole and allow the bulletin to be sent further back in time."
"For example, ten days ago? A month ago? A year ago?"
That was possible.
Jiang Ran had thought the same thing before.
"So, during our next experiment, I plan to try finding that variable."
Qin Feng pointed at the Positron Cannon.
"Through the external circuitry, we can control the intensity of the focusing device and alter the beam density."
"I think there's a strong possibility that... as long as we increase the beam density, we'll be able to send bulletins to earlier points in time!"
Jiang Ran nodded.
"We can try it, but I suggest we don't increase the density first. We should reduce it and see what happens... try sending a bulletin two days back, one day back, or even just a few hours back."
Qin Feng smiled.
"You're as cautious as ever, but you're right. That would be safer."
"And there's more."
Jiang Ran raised his index finger.
"Since we're doing an experiment, we should test more possibilities."
"The next time we send a bulletin, we can have someone else send it, use a different phone... and see whether you can retain Omni-Spacetime Memory too."
At present.
Why he possessed [Omni-Spacetime Memory] was still a completely unfathomable mystery.
He had considered it before.
Could it be related to who sent the bulletin, or who pressed the send button?
It sounded rather mystical.
But since they had no leads, they might as well try something mystical. Maybe a blind cat really would stumble upon a dead mouse.
"Alright."
Jiang Ran checked his watch. It was 9:01 p.m.
The dormitory building would close in another two hours, which was enough time for a Spacetime Bulletin experiment.
"Then, now that we're done summarizing, there's no time to waste. Let's begin the experiment."
He wiped the small blackboard clean.
Then wrote several large words on it: The Fourth Spacetime Bulletin Experiment.
Then he turned back with a faint smile.
"There's no need for testing anymore, and there's no emergency we need to save anyone from. We can freely decide what the Spacetime Bulletin says."
"So, let's all put our heads together—"
"What should we use the Spacetime Bulletin to do this time?"
