Background / History

Zheng Hetong is the Third Elder of the second-rate Blazing Blade Sect and one of its four Innate Martial Master elders. While passing a starving beggar by the roadside, he rescued the newly reborn Zhao Ping'an and brought him to Feather Mountain. He accepted Zhao as a personal disciple because the boy strongly resembled his deceased son. 1

For four years, Zheng and his wife Zhao Xiuyun gave Zhao Ping'an a home, education, and martial training. Zheng personally copied a new Body Tempering Art manual for Zhao, provided medicinal ingredients and baths, and guided his early cultivation with the Monkey Step Technique. 2 4

Before Zhao Ping'an exposed his true strength, Zheng believed his youngest disciple had mediocre talent and worried about his future. Zhao's sudden display of peak Grandmaster power during the Sun Family conflict shocked Zheng, but he supported Zhao's decision to destroy the family and assisted in securing its remaining forces and assets. 23 24 25

After the Sun Family's fall, Zheng chose to leave the Blazing Blade Sect, both to avoid bringing trouble to Zhao Ping'an and because Zhao Xiuyun had grown weary of his dangerous life in the jianghu. Zhao Ping'an subsequently arranged for Zheng and his disciples to manage the former Sun Family Alchemy Workshop. 27 28
