Background / History

The Witch Tribe is a settlement of the Witch Race, whose members are known for powerful physical bodies and body-refinement cultivation. Lin Zhu first encounters one while pursuing the badly wounded Ox Demon. The demon enters the settlement seeking refuge, but Witch Soldiers surround him and attack. Lin Zhu kills the Ox Demon before accepting the tribe chieftain's invitation to enter. 21

The tribe is led by Jiu Li, an ancient Lesser Witch whose strength is close to that of a Great Witch. Its settlement is more developed than the Human Tribe Lin Zhu had previously seen, with crude houses capable of sheltering its inhabitants. The tribe's members possess enough physical strength to tear apart tigers and leopards and pursue Fierce Beasts. 21

Lin Zhu, Guang Chengzi, and Xuan Du remain with the tribe for three months. Lin Zhu and Jiu Li conduct an extensive Dao Debate focused on body refinement, with Lin Zhu's understanding impressing Jiu Li and Jiu Li's knowledge helping Lin Zhu improve his own method. Before the visitors depart, Jiu Li gives them gifts associated with the Witch Race. 22

The tribe later becomes one of Lin Zhu's important connections to the wider Witch Race. When Lin Zhu returns, Jiu Li explains that the Demon Race's growing power and interference in earthly affairs have caused deep dissatisfaction. The Witch Race begins gathering at Buzhou Mountain and preparing its tribes for war. Lin Zhu proposes an alliance between the Witch and Human Races, and Jiu Li takes the suggestion seriously because of his trust in him. 46

Jiu Li later accompanies Lin Zhu toward the Da Yi Tribe and confirms that the Ancestral Witches are not interested in an alliance with humanity at that time. Lin Zhu concludes that the Human Race will have to rely on itself during the coming war. 65

When Lin Zhu learns that the Demon Race is slaughtering humans to forge the Witch Slaughtering Sword, he deliberately reports the danger to Jiu Li rather than approaching the Witch ancestral land directly. Jiu Li immediately agrees to warn the Twelve Ancestral Witches and leaves for Buzhou Mountain. 74

The Witch Race ultimately enters open war with the Demon Race. After Hou Tu transforms into Reincarnation, the incomplete Capital Heaven Godly Fiend Array leaves the Witch Race vulnerable to a full-scale Demon offensive. The Witch Race responds by forming its great array and summoning the Pangu Shadow, but the conflict devastates both sides. Jiu Li dies in the Heavenly Court, along with most of the Ancestral Witches. 93 95 96

After the war, the remaining Witch Race members scatter and seek refuge with Hou Tu. The former Ancestral Witch Palace at Buzhou Mountain falls into ruin, leaving only a trace of the tribe's former presence. 98 133
