A vast shadow blanketed the land. The sky was dim, and the stars were hard to make out.
A magical boat streaked through the air, swift as lightning. It dragged a long trail of rainbow light across the void, like a ribbon winding and swaying as it vanished into the horizon.
The inside of the magical boat was magnificently appointed.
The main hall was spacious, its every surface carved with intricate patterns. Embroidered tents hung in soft folds, and layers of brocade parted to reveal a golden dais inlaid with jewels.
On the dais, Pei Ling sat high upon the seat of honor, his black robe as dark as night. To his left sat Ling Yi and Fu Qiong, representing the Sacred Dao; to his right sat Kongmeng, Mogui, and Zisai, representing the righteous path.
At that moment, Kongmeng sat with her sleeves folded. Her long lashes fanned over bright, limpid eyes fixed on Pei Ling above. In a gentle voice, she said, "...That was more or less what happened to Mogui and me back then."
"When we finally climbed the Jianmu, what happened to us was much the same as what happened to Fu Qiong and Zisai. There was little difference."
