Ch. 21Slaying the Big Stupid Rabbit, Gaining a New Talent

Parr killed the Big Stupid Rabbit and gained and upgraded its Danger Prediction talent. After he and John ran out of water, John carried him toward a river he had spotted in the dark, leaving Parr wondering how he had seen it.

  • Parr used the Wind Wolf Basic Swordsmanship to kill the Big Stupid Rabbit after it broke through and nearly kicked his head.
  • John arrived, praised Parr for mastering the swordsmanship, and accidentally knocked him into the grass with an excited slap.
  • Parr absorbed the rabbit's energy, gained Danger Prediction LV1, and spent 10 Mental Energy Points to upgrade it to LV2.
  • John ate most of the roasted rabbit and gave Parr the remaining meat, then the pair continued through the Deep Forest as their water ran out.
  • When night fell, John climbed a tree, spotted the river, and carried the thirsty Parr toward it without explaining how he had seen it.

Ch. 22How Did the Talent Prompt Wake-Up Come About?

Parr and John camped beside the glowing Fluorescent River, where John told Parr its legendary origin. After waking at dawn with his Talents restored, Parr fought with a White Deer fawn and was left soaked and shivering when it froze the river around him and escaped.

  • John carried Parr to a glowing tributary of the Fluorescent River, and they drank its sweet water.
  • John told Parr that the Fluorescent River was formed by the weapon of the Purifying Spirit Whale Holy Knight, who had sacrificed herself during the Great Calamity to purify the continent’s waters.
  • Parr wondered whether he had gained Prompt Wake-Up by killing a chicken, then fell asleep beside the river.
  • A White Deer fawn licked Parr awake before dawn, and Prompt Wake-Up restored his Stamina and Mental Power.
  • The fawn tried to knock Parr into the river, but Danger Prediction let him dodge; after Parr fell in during their scuffle, the fawn’s leader froze the water around him and the herd departed.
  • Parr freed himself from the ice and shouted after the fleeing fawn.

Ch. 23The Second Training: Catching Mist Fish

John trained Parr to identify and catch Mist Fish at the Fluorescent River, then led him across into the dangerous part of the Deep Forest. After Parr killed an attacking Green-striped Cat with a swift sword strike, the pair made camp for the night.

  • John told Parr to catch Mist Fish by distinguishing their bodies from the splashes around them, while he prepared fish and asked Parr to collect drifting Fluorescent Lotus flowers.
  • Parr learned to identify Mist Fish within a single breath, caught over a hundred, and gained enough Life Energy Points to raise his realm but chose to save them.
  • John and Parr ate grilled Mist Fish, rested, and crossed the river into the dangerous region of the Deep Forest.
  • At evening camp, a Green-striped Cat ambushed Parr, but Parr dodged its attack and killed it with Wind Wolf Basic Swordsmanship: Upward Flick, gaining five Life Energy Points.
  • Parr caught four Stupid Rabbits as night fell, and he and John shared grilled rabbit, dried Mist Fish, and Fluorescent River water by the campfire.

Ch. 24Two People Lost in the Rain

Parr and John traveled deeper through the forest, where Parr fought beasts and hunted chickens while building up Life Energy Points. After days of rain and an unreliable Compass, John and Parr got lost in the Deep Forest.

  • Parr kept watch while John slept, then the pair continued traveling as wild beasts attacked them along the way.
  • Parr fought off attacking beasts with help from Danger Intuition, while John killed creatures too large for him.
  • Parr found a flock of wild chickens, killed more than ten, and cooked several with John for lunch.
  • Rain began as Parr checked his Status Panel and saw that his Life Energy Points had risen to 147.
  • John and Parr traveled through two days of rain, then realized they were lost because John's damaged Compass no longer pointed accurately.

Ch. 25Leaving the Deep Forest

Parr and John escaped the Deep Forest and headed toward Azure Stone City, while Parr upgraded his Prompt Wake-Up talent and Wind Wolf Basic Breathing Technique. The chapter ended when they spotted flames rising ahead on the road.

  • On their seventh day lost, Parr and John avoided a Big Head Tiger and continued west through the thinning forest.
  • Parr killed an attacking beast with his Black Short Sword, and the pair reached a main road in the Azure Stone Viscount Territory by evening.
  • John used fresh wagon ruts and hoofprints to identify the direction to Azure Stone City, then led Parr along the road.
  • Parr upgraded Prompt Wake-Up to LV3, which restored his Stamina, Mental Power, and HP at dawn, and maxed out Wind Wolf Basic Breathing Technique.
  • John extinguished the torch after noticing flames soaring in the distance, and Parr asked what had happened.

Ch. 26Merchants and "Bandits"

Kunna’s return convoy was ambushed by a mob posing as bandits, but the attack was secretly arranged by her half-brother Kalan to seize her business. As Kalan prepared to dispose of his accomplice, a messenger warned that a Bronze-level Adventurer had arrived from the west.

  • Kunna led a lapis lazuli convoy back toward Azure Stone City despite a warning that bandits might be on the roads.
  • A ragtag group attacked Kunna’s camp, and her people fought them from behind a barricade of carts.
  • Kunna offered each attacker a Wind Wolf Gold Coin to leave, but the bandit leader persuaded them to keep fighting and used Rocket Arrows to set the carts ablaze.
  • Kalan watched the attack from the forest and revealed that he had planned it with Kunna’s trusted subordinate to take over her Western Territory business.
  • As Kalan prepared to kill the subordinate, a wounded man arrived and reported that a Bronze-level Adventurer had come from the west.

Ch. 27The Importance of Finishing Blows

John and Parr investigated a fire in the Deep Forest and confronted Kalan, who was plotting against a merchant caravan. After Parr killed Kalan’s hidden attacker and John defeated Kalan, Parr discovered Kalan was faking his death and finished him off.

  • John and Parr were attacked by two archers, and John killed one while wounding the other.
  • John and Parr followed the wounded archer to Kalan and a middle-aged man near the caravan.
  • Kalan secretly sent a cold-faced man in black to abduct Parr, but Parr detected him and killed him with two sword strikes.
  • Kalan attacked John during the confusion, and John overwhelmed him in battle.
  • John believed Kalan was dead, but Parr noticed his Battle Qi had not dispersed and stabbed him through the heart.

Ch. 28A Man's Duty

Parr absorbed energy from the defeated bandits while John rescued Kunna’s caravan from an attack arranged by Kalan. Kunna recognized her brother among the captured men, severed ties with the Machira family, and prepared to establish her own merchant guild.

  • Parr gained 140 Life Energy Points and 11 Mental Energy Points, but decided to save them rather than upgrade his abilities.
  • Kunna offered the bandits two Wind Wolf Gold Coins each to leave, but their leader raised the reward to five gold coins and sent them back into the attack.
  • John arrived with Battle Qi, subdued the bandit leader, stopped the fleeing bandits, and had the surviving attackers bound.
  • After John described capturing a gray-haired young man, Kunna asked to see him and recognized him as her younger brother, Kalan.
  • Kunna renounced the Machira family and declared that her western-border guild would become the Kunna Merchant Guild.
  • Kunna rewarded the surviving caravan members and promised compensation to the families of the dead, while John teased Parr about his attraction to her.

Ch. 29Azure Stone City

John and Parr reached Azure Stone City with Kunna’s caravan, where a gate guard secretly followed them and reported their arrival to Vice Captain Ma Xi. At the Church, John revealed Bolen Knight’s ashes and a list of cultists to Old Larry, while Ithil fled after learning Bolen was dead.

  • Kunna paid the patrol leader to take custody of the bandits, then bribed the western gate guards to let the caravan enter Azure Stone City.
  • John told Parr that a gate guard was following them, and they went to the Church while the guard reported their arrival to Vice Captain Ma Xi.
  • John showed his Honorary Knight Badge to the Church healer and asked to speak with a senior Church official about cultists.
  • Old Larry recognized John, and John presented Bolen Knight’s ashes and belongings along with a list of Death Cult cultists in the Azure Stone Viscount Territory.
  • Ithil overheard that Bolen was dead and ran away, so John sent Parr after her while he remained with Old Larry.

Ch. 30Ithil and Parr

After learning of Bolen Knight's death, Ithil mourned while Parr comforted her, and she later took the filthy Parr to bathe. Parr accidentally inhaled Drunkard Flower Pollen and passed out; he woke up being carried by John, who teased him about Ithil bathing him.

  • Parr found Ithil crying in the Church hall and told her how Bolen Knight had saved his village from the cultists.
  • Ithil comforted Parr about Bolen Knight's death, then teased him for being short and insisted he needed a bath.
  • While waiting in Ithil's room, Parr read about medicinal plants and Magic Potions before sniffing Drunkard Flower Pollen and collapsing.
  • Ithil discovered Parr had passed out, stripped him, and bathed him in a wooden tub while he remained unconscious.
  • Parr dreamed of an enormous wolf, then woke as John carried him through the street and teased him about Ithil bathing him.

Ch. 31Adventurers' Association

John brought Parr to the Azure Stone City Adventurers' Association, where he cashed in a Church bounty and arranged to register Parr as an adventurer. The association president began testing Parr with a glowing magic array, leaving the result unknown.

  • John led Parr through the busy adventurer district to the Azure Stone City Adventurers' Association and warned him to speak little inside.
  • John intimidated the sleeping adventurers with his Three-Star Adventurer badge and cashed in a Church bounty certificate for nine Wind Wolf Gold Coins.
  • John put Parr on the counter and told the staff member to register him, claiming he was ten years old.
  • The staff member brought Parr to the association president, who dismissed her and asked Parr to give him his hand for a test.
  • A green-glowing magic array appeared around Parr's wrist as the president began the test.

Ch. 32Magic Apprentice

Parr rejected Abel’s offer to study magic full-time but learned a basic meditation technique and registered as a One-Star Adventurer. After discovering he could advance as a Magic Apprentice, he joined John at a tavern, where they caught two thieves trying to steal from Parr’s bundle.

  • Abel detected Parr’s strong physical and mental abilities and offered to train him as a magician, but Parr refused because he wanted to hunt cultists.
  • Abel gave Parr a basic meditation technique and registered him as a One-Star Adventurer before revealing that he was a Four-Star Magician named Abel.
  • Parr used the meditation page to learn Basic Meditation Technique and unlocked the Elementary Magic Apprentice realm on his Status Panel.
  • John led Parr to a tavern, drove other patrons from a table, and ordered an extravagant meal and room.
  • A brown-haired man approached John to request protection for a caravan, while his accomplice stole items from Parr’s bundle; John and Parr caught the thieves, and Parr beat one of them.

Ch. 33A Thief with an Ulterior Motive

John and Parr dealt with two thieves who were secretly gathering information for Vice Captain Ma Xi, then left the tavern the next morning. John explained that Azure Stone City had become deserted because the Viscount’s missing possession had triggered a citywide search.

  • John had Parr break one hand and one foot of each thief after they tried to steal from them in the tavern.
  • Parr suspected the brothers had deliberately targeted them, and John said they were testing the pair to learn where they came from.
  • Ma Xi questioned the brown-haired brothers, learned that John appeared to be a former Western Border Fortress soldier, and paid them to keep quiet.
  • Parr spent the night guarding the room while John was with two women, then followed him out of the tavern the next morning.
  • John told Parr that the Viscount’s missing possession had led the Patrol Team to search homes and driven many adventurers out of Azure Stone City.

Ch. 34Origins

Parr visited the Kunna Merchant Guild with John, where he learned the Church would move against the Death Heretics at noon, then toured Azure Stone City with Ithil. Their walk led them to the slums, where Ithil revealed she had once lived among the poor and orphaned children there.

  • Parr accompanied John to the Kunna Merchant Guild, where Ithil told them the Church was ready to attack the Death Heretics at noon and John agreed to handle the heretics inside the city.
  • John sent Ithil to show Parr around Azure Stone City, and Parr grew flustered when she called him her little brother and said she liked him.
  • A beggar told Ithil that the Grimm Brothers had been badly injured, so she took Parr to the slums to find them.
  • The children in a run-down courtyard greeted Ithil as their boss, and she explained to Parr that she had once been one of the poor children living there.

Ch. 35Escape

Ithil learned that Ma Xi had ordered the Grimm Brothers to steal, and revealed that he had killed Bolen. Parr bet Ithil he could kill Ma Xi, while Ma Xi received a warning that the Church would act at noon and escaped John’s raid.

  • Ithil healed the Grimm Brothers, made them apologize to Parr, and learned that Vice Captain Ma Xi had directed their thefts.
  • The Grimm Brothers explained they had stolen to save money for Ithil’s birthday gift, and Ithil left after saying Ma Xi had killed Bolen.
  • Parr tried to cheer Ithil by promising to kill Ma Xi, then bet that he could do it despite being far weaker.
  • Ma Xi received a magical warning that he had been exposed and the Church would act at noon.
  • Ma Xi fled through a tunnel as John broke into his house, and the tunnel’s collapse prevented John from pursuing him.

Ch. 36Time for Us to Act (End of Volume)

The Church of Neutral Light and Azure Stone City’s forces purged the Death Cult, but its deputy mentor Ma Xi escaped their first attack. As the city searched for him, Ithil and Parr located him near the South Gate and prepared to act.

  • John arrived too late to stop Ma Xi from escaping through a tunnel, then ordered Parr and Ithil to help seal the roads while the citywide purge began.
  • George led the Patrol Team and city guards in killing cultists across Azure Stone City, while the search for Ma Xi continued into evening.
  • John and George attacked a supposed Ma Xi at the East Gate, only to discover it was a Bronze Walking Corpse sent as a diversion.
  • Little Green told Ithil and Parr that he and Big Green had spotted Ma Xi heading toward the South Gate, then led them to a courtyard where he was digging.
  • Ithil sent the Grimm Brothers to summon help and held Parr back as they watched Ma Xi, then declared it was time for them to act.

Ch. 37Fierce Battle!

Ithil and Parr ambushed Ma Xi at the hidden tunnel, but their victory was followed by the emergence of a Bronze-level Wraith. Parr advanced to Intermediate Knight Apprentice and healed his chest wound just before the new enemy attacked.

  • Ithil lured Ma Xi into attacking her while Parr waited to ambush him.
  • Parr and Ithil coordinated their attacks, and Parr was stabbed by Ithil's sword before she killed Ma Xi with Parr's Black Short Sword.
  • A freezing mist burst from Ma Xi's corpse, blasting Parr and Ithil into a wall and knocking the sword from Parr's chest.
  • Parr spent 55 Life Energy Points to reach Intermediate Knight Apprentice, and his wound healed as his HP returned to full.
  • Parr dodged a Cold Stream from a ghostly old man, and Ithil identified the attacker as a Bronze-level Wraith.

Ch. 38Wraith

A Bronze-level Wraith trapped Parr and Ithil inside a Death Barrier, forcing Ithil to shield Parr while they searched for a way to fight back. Parr upgraded Dazzling Light to its peak and, after locating the hidden Wraith, struck at its back as it moved toward Ithil.

  • The Wraith Old Man emerged from Ma Xi's head, raised a Death Barrier, and began searching for a new vessel.
  • Ithil explained that intelligent Wraiths needed living hosts to survive until sunrise and used her Dazzling Light to protect Parr from the Gray Mist.
  • Parr revealed that he could use Dazzling Light and upgraded it to MAX, gaining the ability to convert attacks into powerful attacks against evil creatures.
  • Parr used Bright Eyes to locate the Wraith Old Man through the Gray Mist and pretended he could not find him.
  • The Wraith Old Man moved toward Ithil to possess her, and Parr charged in and swung his Black Short Sword at the Wraith's back.

Ch. 39One Person, Two Rewards

Parr killed the Wraith that had attacked him and Ithil, while the Church believed it had escaped. Afterward, Ithil chose to become a Church Knight, and Parr woke at the Kunna Merchant Guild residence to collect Life Energy and Mental Energy from Ma Xi and the Wraith.

  • Parr used Dazzling Light and three sword moves to destroy the Wraith, then protected the unconscious Ithil as the grey mist barrier faded.
  • John found Parr and Ithil, brought them to Green Stone City Church, and learned they were exhausted rather than possessed; the Church searched in vain for the escaped Wraith.
  • Ithil claimed she had won their bet because she dealt Ma Xi the final blow, and Parr asked her to keep his fight with the Wraith secret rather than persuade him to join the Church.
  • Ithil knocked Parr unconscious with Drunkard Flower Pollen and smeared blood on him to make it look as if they had fought Ma Xi together.
  • Ithil told Old Larry she wanted to become a Church Knight, and he encouraged her to follow that path.
  • Parr woke at the Kunna Merchant Guild residence and absorbed 50 Life Energy Points and 100 Mental Energy Points from Ma Xi and the Wraith.

Ch. 40Award Ceremony

Parr and John attended Azure Stone City's Award Ceremony, where George was knighted and Parr and Ithil received rewards for defeating Ma Xi. Afterward, Ithil took Parr to try grilled meat, and he learned that the world's known spicy plants were poisonous, leaving him determined to search the Primeval Forest for safe spices.

  • Parr decided to save his Life Energy Points and Mental Energy Points rather than upgrade his talents or skills.
  • John brought Parr to Azure Stone Plaza, where the Viscountess presided over rewards for those who had helped defeat the cultists.
  • Parr and Ithil received twenty Wind Wolf Gold Coins each and an Azure Gold Commemorative Medal for taking down Ma Xi.
  • Viscountess Mary Azure Stone knighted George for his strength, service, and loyalty to the Azure Stone Family.
  • Ithil took Parr to eat Lapis Lazuli Plate grilled meat, and Parr asked her about plants with a spicy flavor.
