Background / History

The Shinobi World did not originally possess chakra. The Great Toad Sage recalls Kaguya’s arrival as the turning point; Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki later shared chakra and founded the Ninja Sect in the hope of bringing about peace 43 95. Chakra exists in all living things, including small animals, though their reserves are normally slight 2.

Before the Empire, the world was divided among countries ruled by daimyō and defended by ninja villages. Shinobi fought wars and carried out missions for rulers who generally lacked comparable combat power 21 104 363.

Places and Systems

Story Role / Major Arcs

• Brahman’s takeover — Brahman secretly spread his influence through small creatures and brought the five great nations’ daimyō under his control. He then seized the Hokage position and established an empire that absorbed the former nations 3 7 13.
• End of the ninja villages — Brahman defeated the major villages and suppressed organized resistance. Survivors, including Hiruzen Sarutobi and Jiraiya, sought a way to save the world 34 50 72.
• Imperial society — The Empire distributed chakra-refining methods, replaced the old nobility with a new caste system, and ended the world’s wars. Its peace rested alongside forced conversion and the suppression of opposition 17 66 96.
• Expansion beyond the planet — Imperial citizens began migrating through portals to other planets. The Empire later developed spacecraft, Creation Spores for planetary transformation, and interdimensional travel 103 114 134 138.

Parallel Shinobi Worlds

• Naruto’s conquest — An Imperial Naruto crossed into a parallel Shinobi World, built Human Production Machines, raised an army, and conquered its nations and villages. The resulting dimensional connection helped Brahman understand how to build a permanent Gate of Time and Space 115 116 125 138.
• Second Pillar’s conquests — Imperial versions of Sasuke were sent into other timelines. One took Konoha and spread Subspace’s influence; another arrived during a Valley of the End battle and conquered that world within a day 140 144 150 363.
• Routine interworld travel — As the Empire expanded, people could travel between conquered parallel worlds. Boruto and Sasuke encountered one such altered Shinobi World and were detained by its Imperial-aligned Naruto 294.
