Shen Yanchao and Wang Yi had often run this kind of play together back in school, but today, after throwing the ball, Shen Yanchao immediately realized something was wrong. He'd thrown it a little too high.
It was less than twenty centimeters from the top of the backboard.
Ooki jumped, trying to catch the ball, but Wang Yi was already in the air, one step ahead of him.
At the peak of his jump, Wang Yi caught the ball.
Ooki had seen how high the ball was and hadn't planned to jump right away. He'd meant to wait until it came down a little before taking off. But Wang Yi had jumped first.
Seeing that, Ooki realized something was wrong and could only jump after him.
Yet when Ooki was only halfway into his jump, Wang Yi had already caught the ball.
When he saw Wang Yi grab it, he was secretly stunned.
That high?
Wasn't that almost as high as the top of the backboard?
Wang Yi couldn't believe the guy had still managed to catch the ball. That vertical leap was freaking insane.
Wang Yi had jumped with his back to the basket and Ooki. As he caught the ball, he turned his body slightly, rotating 180 degrees until he was facing both the basket and Ooki.
Then he raised his left hand to fend off Ooki's arm as it came in to swat the ball, while winding his right arm back in a wide arc.
His arm swept through a huge semicircle, and, with Ooki's head in the way, he slammed the ball viciously through the rim.
Bang—
The rim rang out with a tremendous crash.
The backboard support swayed back and forth.
The net kept fluttering and rustling.
The arena fell silent once again.
